Did You Go Shooting Today

Practicing for the State Championship with my instructor Jason Miyashiro, 4 time IDPA Regional Champion. This is at my home range, Mission 160, where will host the 2024 Texas State IDPA and then the 2025 National IDPA Championship.

He told me to go "nice and smooth and slow" on the stage then the second pass he said to "turn on the afterburners". IMO... Not too bad for a 65 year old with a hip replacement. Lol. I'm going to win State in my division this year. At least that's my attitude going in. Always think big.

Have you considered checking out the 2 GUN RIMFIRE at DPRC ? It's the second Saturday of the month. Challenging and fun , usually 6 stages. Takes about 5 hrs. Come on down !
Yes! I started 2-gun rimfire at DPRC in January 2022 and became addicted. Added Steel Challenge in Jan 2023 as practice for 2-gun because Steel Challenge standardized stages allow me to benchmark my progress.
I plan to be at DPRC this Saturday. Squad 2. Match looks almost full and the weather forecast is looking awesome.

TSA in Raleigh Thursday, adjusted the red dot on my High Tower Armory Bull Pup Hipoint and then tried the 30rd ProMag drum magazine.
Had 20 rds in the drum magazine, had to turn the knob to release some spring tension so the magazine will seat, ran good with only a few rounds not feeding, I'm going to clean the rifle and expect the drum magazine to run better after a few times at the range.
Shot the Beretta APX carry, Canik TP9STF, SA XD-M Elite and Glock 43 for 9mm therapy.

How was the break in period on the GForce? Any issues?
First couple times I've shot it didn't have any issues. Yesterday I was pretty much wasting a mixed up box of 2 3/4 inch shells with couple different brands and different shot ranging from 7 1/2 to slugs. It did have a couple failure to eject with the mixed bag of shells.

I managed to get out yesterday for a little bit. Wanted to try my P365 Tacops with the red dot again. Red dot not for me. Shot better with regular sights. I took the optic off when I got home.

Walther PPX performed flawlessly as it had before.

Both Sig P239s (9mm and .40) did as expected.

Fun, but not a terribly exciting range trip.

I have the GF 99 model and mine broke after the first 2 rounds and had to go back for repair. Works now but I am not yet past the first 100 high velocity shells for the break in.

Took the SA-35 out for its first shoot. Ran about 40 rounds of three different manufacturers ammo through it without so much as a hiccup.
Didn't shoot any paper, today's trip was a function check alone.
But I did hit the 100 yard berm with it, and I didn't need to aim as high as I thought I would to hit it.

True story... working at the gun club last night. We get a few foreigners that come in to shoot. This English guy rents a pistol and buys some ammo. 20 minutes later he comes to the desk a says that "The gun had worked fine for a while but doesn't shoot anymore". So I go into the range figuring there is a jam... gun is clear, empty magazine on the bench, box of ammo empty. Instead of laughing (or slapping him) I calmly told him, "The batteries must be dead". He said, "Oh".

Nothing shocks me at work anymore. I should start a freakin' thread with stories.

I did a birthday shoot at Woodys this morning, sighting in two beautiful rifles obtained from forum members.

A Ruger M77 tang safety .30-06 with a Redfield Widefield 2-7x scope that came with the rifle but not mounted. The scope has adjustment dials but no click increments, so I kept overshooting the adjustments. Used LC 67 M2 delinked ball and got excellent accuracy, something I hadn't anticipated given the ammo. I later smacked the steel at 300 yds no problem with 1974 FN M2 ball. What a great shooter!

Then I sighted in a red dot on a Serb M70 that at first was not cooperating but then decided to play nice. Another surprise, how well it shot at 100 yds with Wolf ball.

Spent some time testing ammo through my new M&P 15-22. I also zeroed both the iron and red dot sights. I've been pretty much pistols-only for a long time, but I think the rifle bug is biting me now...!
Find a 15-22 pistol. 😉

Rimfire roundup this morning. Learned that AutoMatch runs great in the 15-22 and the M&P 22.
The AutoMatch has worked well for me in various guns.

Yesterday I went to DPRC with a young friend that wants to get his concealed carry permit. His class is next weekend and he wanted to get some practice in. I took a Ruger SR22, a CZ75, a CZ97, and a Ruger GP100. He shot all of them and did quite well. We set the target at 7 yards, and out of the probably 200 rounds he shot. I would say all of them would have fallen inside the required area for CHP except for one - not bad. I’m sure he will do well.

He finished up by shooting some more rounds with his shotgun that I helped him purchase a few months back - an 870 tactical 20 gauge he wanted for home defense.

It was a good day at the range.

Shot the CMP Eastern Games this weekend. Two days of bullseye. Won the “rimfire only” 2700 match with a new competition record.

Missed out on almost-certain .22 EIC points (the long-leg point scores were equal to or lower than my National Match Scores from the 2700) when my Marvel conversion upper broke. Seems like a broken firing pin.

Ran out to the range to see how the cataract surgery change anything in the way I shoot. I had the 2nd eye done last Thursday.
Range toys were Sig 365X, Ruger LCP2, Marlyn 1895 in 45-70, CZ in 204 Ruger, 300 BO SBR (with a Rebel can) and Savage Axis in 6.5 CM
All were good except someone needs to reteach me how to shoot the 45-70. I am glad there was not a broad side of the barn because I could not hit it.
1st Picture was the 300 BO with 150 FMJ. Shot group 1 was the top them lowered the green dot 6 MOA. (50 yards)
2nd picture is the 300 BO with the 208 ELD. Bottom was the 45-70 with Hornady 300 grn bullets. (50 yards)
3rd is the 204 Ruger top half, and the bottom is the 6.5 CM (100 Yards)
