Just an observation on my part but I see that most of the negative feedback goes to new members, Maybe it should be mandatory for new members to read the rules. There are a lot of people on here that if I'm selling, I'd send them item as soon as we made a deal. No doubt I'd get the $s or the item in trade

These fools can’t read.

I’ve found it to be extremely reliable when dealing with Supporting Members thru the Classifieds available only to them.
This is the way. Dealing with members who have years invested, or those who aren’t brand new but are supporting members.

The ones that aren’t supporting members that repeatedly bump their post about wanting to buy super cheap guns, even though we have linked sites with cheap guns, are probably Feds. Or felons.

How would you propose enforcing that? 🤔
I'm not that smart and I'm less computer literate than most of your youngest children. Would there be some way for a new member to have to read it before they can access BST? I don't know, I'm asking.

I'm still fairly new here as well and haven't throwed my change in the bucket yet. Main reason being I've tryed so many forums that after a month or so I just get tired of the constant pissing contest that happens on so many. Or the ones where the admin act like gestapo or gods gets real old real quick. So far I really like it around here. Seems like my kinda crowd mostly. And that's why I've told all my old brothers from another forum about this place. Now for the on topic part of this post. There seems to be alot of new people sign on here regularly just for the purpose of the bst sections with no plans to chime in on threads or get to know anyone.

Even if you managed to enforce it, I think you'd have a breakdown between reading and understanding.

Yes, that is the core of the issue.

How many times have you read everything in those ToA statements?
I know how many I have, dont need to hold up any fingers or toes to do so, either.
Never.

As in the case in the gun control "debate", let it be known that more laws don't make criminals honest men.
I was going to say something similar and add that even if we can make them read it we can’t make them follow it.

Rules are like laws. They give a framework to punish the guilty. They don’t make honest men out of liars and cheats.

To post for sale ad, $30 for non members. ;)
Or just make the BTS paid member only. Just seems like so much of the unnecessary crap the moderators have to deal with is that section of the board. But then there is the issue of those who come to sell stuff but then end up staying. IDK what the fix is.

I like it. Skin in the game would likely stop most of the crap we put up with from this group. They either join or don’t post in the BST.

In past discussions the BST was among other things a means to growth, so they never wanted it behind a paywall. Though I might start to wonder if more growth is now wanted or necessary…

I've been associated with this band of misfits since 2008 through the third message board. When the time came to pony up the money I wrote my check to become a Life Member. The folks who built this place in a day deserved my support. And yes it happened in a day. The previous forum was sold to Canadians and a mass exodus happened very shortly after that.

Most of the mods around here are pretty chill until you take a dump in the punch bowl. You have to earn your time out or total ban from the place. It's fun to watch. Hang around long enough and you'll see it happen.

As for the sellers who are here just for that. A little detective work will be required. Start with their join date. Is it recent or are they a long time member. Check their posting. Are they solely here to hang out in the buy sell trade or do they post in other areas of the board and not just a minimum post kind of deal. It doesn't take too much time to get a sense if you might need to use some caution.

As for pissing contest, some of the most epic fights have been over banana pudding and mayonnaise. This place is what you make it. You can be here as little or as much as you want to be. I've never sold anything here but have bought a lot of different stuff. Now the rest is up to you. In for a penny, or a pound?

This right here. I rarely sell anything but buy alot. If the member does not have atleast a supporting member badge I typically scroll on. There are a few I am watching and if the item hangs around long enough I will shoot them a lower offer and if it bites great. If not oh well. If it does pan out I will ask why they haven't become a supporting member.

I don't mean this in a harsh manner, but maybe use common sense when dealing in BST. Don't send people you don't know or trust funds of any kind. The current system seems to do a good job at sifting out "evil doers" while giving all newbies a chance to learn the ropes. Basic reading skills are necessary to navigate according to the rules of the forum. Some people will come here just for the BST's and I was one of them. I had to go through all the laughing emoji's on my posts and comments behind the wall. Frankly, I deserved it. I got mad and expressed disgust with one of the mods if I recall. I left for a bit and later returned. There is an educational and maturation process for some people who come here. I've been corrected several times and I am better for it. I think this forum is as fair as any I have been on. The Mods give everyone a fair chance to become part of the community. If people will hang around long enough, I think they will find some value in being a part of it.

I’ve gotten some pretty solid deals in the BST from brand new/non-supporting members. I think proper application of individual common sense goes a lot further than the creation of more institutional rules. Plus, I get a good chuckle with some of the armslist flashbacks that show up from time to time.
