Dimpling nitride barrel

Later today, I’d like to dimple a nitride barrel. Should I expect any issues drilling the nitride?

I’ve seen it suggested to break the surface with a carbide burr, is that worth the effort?

Would a carbide scribe or prick punch not be ideal?

If using a press it won’t matter. If hand drilling you might want to use a pointed punch that fits your jig snuggly to give the bit something to bite without the pressure of a press.
