I firmly believe we have what I call Disneyland Syndrome. People are living under this assumption that the world has been tamed; that if there isn't a sign warning of danger that it must be safe. We can control the climate, we can control the spread of virus and we have evolved beyond civil strife. The woman in this story actually quipped, "I guess I'll never do this again" while a ten foot gator had her by the leg.

I felt bad till I got to the end. Jesus what a maroon. “I don’t look like a deer”.
Most of the time nowadays these stories come back to the “victims” doing stupid crap that gets them ATE!

The real victim is the animal that gets killed because he’s just being an animal in a world filled with morons.

We always carried a rifle with us when we were diving in the Cooper river for Meg teeth.
Fun times. My dive instructor said they were mostly only a danger when we were on the surface. :D

........if you are that stupid......so be it. She got what she asked for.

I think of these events as iPhone syndrome. Once we put a camera in the phone, people decide to take pictures of EVERYTHING. Before that we either used to look at things and go "ooh, ahhh" or schlep a camera bag around to take a picture of the things.

Now we have people falling off things while trying to take a selfie, and doing dangerous crap without thinking about anything beyond what a cool picture this will be.

Huh, I almost was bitten by a gator in Kiawah too. I saw a little baby in one of the canals and was creeping over to get a better look when momma popped up and snapped her jaws at me. I made a quick retreat.

Hate it for her family and happy that none of my dumbass moments have killed me yet.

I see it every year at Hilton Head. People from Ohio want to get right at the water's edge and look. I told three German girls last year to get back because they were at the water's edge and the gator that was only 30 feet out went under water. They almost didn't believe that it was dangerous. There was no way I was going to let some Germans get eaten and ruin my fishing.
