Does it make THAT much of a difference?

How much of a difference is it carrying the newer micro double stacks vs the standard double stacks?

My standard carry is a G26 with a 12 rd magazine in an AIWB holster. Flush fit 10 rd when I want to be 100% positive no one will notice.

I have held off upgrading my carry gun to one of the newer micro double stacks. Now we have the P365, P365xl, Hellcat, Shield+, Max9.

How big of a difference is it carrying and shooting those compared to the standard fat-baby double stacks? Has anyone switched to the micro double stacks and thought it wasn’t worth it?

If you are not unhappy carrying a G26 I wouldn’t change a thing. I found I carried less often toting around a G30SF double stack so I switched to single stacks 6-7 years ago, but a 26 is just a fine shooter.

Fellow G26 fan here. It is my EDC and I have no desire to change. The best thing about the G26 is that it will accept the bucket of G19 and G17 mags I have. The new micros don’t do that.

I will say, I shot my BIL’s hellcat awhile ago and it was really nice. Not nice enough to pull me away from the G26 with what I have invested in the platform.

It comes down to each person's personal preferences.
Each person has different requirements, and as such, different methods of carry. Add in the different body types, male, female etc.. there are many variables.

I'm a NRA instructor, AND having taught many, many Women On Target clinics,, I ALWAYS stress the fact that each person must find what THEY are comfortable with.
They also need to decide; "Will I carry a lot, & shoot little, or will I shoot a lot & carry a little, or will I do both?"
Each person must find what balances their needs the best.

I have a G-48, have had a few G-43's, and some other variants in between, and always go back to my trusty thick G-19. I also carry appendix, and for some reason, just really prefer the bigger gun. Haven't carried the 48 now for a little over a year.

I've carried a G23 or G27 for 20+ years. I picked up a Hellcat for my wife and am impressed with how it fits and hits for me, it's been my EDC for several months.

I have a single-stack 9mm for the 1or 2 days a year when I'm wearing shorts (river-trips).
Otherwise, it's a G19 and trousers, every day. Just my preference, to each his own.

First, ask yourself will they do anything different or better for you than your G26. If the answer is no, then stick with what you have and are comfortable carrying. I carried a G19 appendix style as my EDC for well over 20 years. In the warmer months, while wearing shorts or slacks, I switched to an S&W 642 until the G43 arrived on the scene. Stopped in an LGS one day and they had the G43X on display. I picked it up and it handled well, noticeably lighter and slimmer than my G19. When Shield Arms 15 round magazines for the G43X hit the market I purchased a 43X and have been carrying it as my EDC. Mainly because I have put on several pounds over the past three years and the G19 was starting to print in the appendix position. So the only thing the G43X does better than the G19 is not print, which an important factor for me. It is not a gun issue it is my issue, and once I am able to exercise again and lose a few pounds I will be returning to the G19. So what will they do better for you than what your G26 does now?

Whats your preferred appendix holster?

Whats your preferred appendix holster?
PHLster Pro series is mine.

For my G19 I use a Blackhawk and for the G43X a Stealth Gear, links are below. When I go back to the G19 I will most likely get a Stealth Gear for it as well. Stealth Gear fits me well, lightweight, and does not get as hot. Nothing wrong with the Blackhawk the one I have has lasted for well over 12 years. I see you are in Moncure, I work up in Pittsboro. I will be happy to meet with you and you check both of them out, just shoot me a PM to work out the details.

Those are good holsters as well.

I think that the answer to your question is- both. Carry and shoot what you're comfortable with. As for concealability, most new CCers are so subconscious about "printing" that they stand out in a crowd and as in poker, the "tells" are what trigger most folks being "made" as carrying.

Case in point, a while back, my daughter wanted to spend her VW bucks on another car so I went car shopping with her. Since there was a sizable amount of money involved, I was packing a G21C on a belt mounted paddle holster, not exactly what anyone would chose for a concealed carry but I like the 45acp. It was a bit chilly and I was wearing a loose fitting jacket. NOBODY made me the entire day and we were close to a number of people and doing test drives. My daughter didn't even notice the entire day. We were at a restaurant that evening and she asked if I was worried with the amount of money we were carrying. I said not a bit and just pulled my jacket open a bit where she could see. Moral of the story, act normal, carry what you want and most folks won't notice most concealed handguns.

I haven’t had the opportunity to try a Glock on a two legger so my points may be moot. But I have witness recorded head shots on two wood chucks at 30 and 32 yards.
With my Glock 26. That little gun shoots great. If the lack of ammo didn’t concern me, I’d carry mine all the time.

My G26 feels like a brick compared to my P365. I pocket carry my P365 and keep my G26 at bedside. I shoot them equally as well, so ease of carry and concealability are the deciding factors for me. I have carried my G26 in an IWB holster on occasions with no issues.

What kind of clothes do you guys wear to pocket carry a P365, Shield or even a G42? That's not happening with any of the clothes I wear.

Try something different than yoga pants.
😁

I can’t see me pocket carrying with 90% of my britches.

Don't feel too left out, I can't easily pocket carry any of those things either. They'll fit, but it's bulky, uncomfortable and really, really slow to deploy.

I feel this can't be answered on a forum, you just have to try it and see. Every time I've toyed around with a smaller carry gun, I end up just going back to something slightly larger because I liked the controllability of the larger pistol better. it's a fighting tool, so if I had to use it I would rather have something that 'fits' me better than something that's maybe a touch smaller.

anecdote: was dorking around carrying my P7 just because it was fun. driving along and some d-bag started acting crazy behind me, running up on my butt, weaving all around, then dropping back and doing again and again. while looking for some way to get off the road before he hit me, my first thought was "this guy is doing to ram me and we're going to crash and I'm going to have to shoot him (when he comes after me)". My second though was... wtf am I doing with the p7? I wanted my G26. the odds I had to use it? small. The desire to have my properly sized EDC? huge. Kinda feel like that with any of the micro 9s. Yea, I get the same 11 rounds, but can I fight with it as well as I do the one I've carried forever? Hard to say. Also, I have so many glock sized holsters and mags!

maybe this is the next generation of FUDD-ism. we'll all be clinging to our clunky G19s/G26s and the kids will be all "yea whatever grandpa, nice antique, you should get a 6.4x18 SIG triple stack micro gun like the rest of us".

If you aren’t carrying a ported G29 in 9x25 yet, you’re not living your best life.

Former G26 carrier, that switched to a Shield, and now has switched to a Shield plus.
Some may say that I shoot the Shield as good or better than a full size gun.

To be fair I carry a compact M&P 2.0 during many parts of the winter.

The Shield has a grip that is not much smaller than a G19...at least in length.
Its just a comfort thing. And a practice thing.

Good thoughts from people. I guess I just hadn’t seen the need to switch but wasn’t sure if I was missing out on a much better carry platform and I’m not the type to just go buy something unless I know it’s going to be better or fit a specific purpose.

The G26 works great for me and there’s rarely a time I feel like it’s difficult to carry.

AND he can shoot Hellll out of it! It's simple...the bigger guns are MUCH easier to shoot better. I shot 5 rounds out of a Colt GM today on the range and at 10 yards they cut a ragged hole. Since I carry a 365SAS my performance with the Colt meant......Nothing.

I carried 2 G26s for about 5 years....every day....every step. Was never a problem. I wear cargo shorts 10 months out of the year. Then 2 G43s, then 2 Sig365s. Dress around what you carry. This came up Today on the range with people shooting from different carry modes.

I can't wear cargo shorts or pants to work.

I have carried a G26 OR G19 for a very long time, I’ve recently been able to play around with a Hellcat and a P365 ( for all intensive purposes these are the same size ) of the 2 I liked the Hellcat better. So I did a side by side gear down and comparison to my beloved G26. See the images below - first off these pistols are very similar and the Hellcat is only “slightly” thinner. For me I decided I would rather stay with my almost boring G26 - I say brining because it isn’t new ,shiny , and exciting. Upside for keeping my G26 is that I have access to low cost mags , I already have mags , my G26 and G19 can interchange mags and some holsters. I also have a PCC that will use mags from my G26

That's always a sticking point to changing if you've been using the same thing for a long time, especially in the standardized world of glock (sorta). You build up holsters, mags, guns that use those mags, parts, etc, etc and then switching isn't just about $500 and a new holster, it's a change in your whole infrastructure. Then there is the experience behind the gun. After 10s of thousands of rounds through a 'platform', changing to something else just 'feels' wrong. It's possible to train your way past that (look at me, I kicked the 1911 habit!) but is it worth the ammo and time to do so?

Yes and another big factor for me is that all of the new subcompact wonder 9mms are some new proprietary mag that isn’t compatible with a service pistol sized gun & PCC.
When I travel by vehicle - often my load out is a G26, G19, and PCC + extra ammo and mags that will work in any org the 3 firearms

I have used the single stack for my BUG and I'll change that up too depending on how I'm dressed for the day. If you have no problems with the G26 stick with it. :)

Brett I carried a G26 with a 19 magazine and sleeve for a long time. Never felt undergunned or undermanned. The G26 is bone stock except for a Crisp 3 Pound trigger.
