I did something today that I said I wasn’t going to do and that is buy a gun in a caliber I don’t have. I bought ordered a blem upper and lower AR pistol in 300 from PSA. The price was pretty good. Probably will suppress this if I ever get ammo. We shall see. I’ve looked at these for a few years and said if I was to get that I would put a can on it. Upper has 8.5” barrel so wouldn’t be real long. So now on to the hunt to find ammo that isn’t stupid price. Of course I don’t know what prices were before they went stupid so I’m not sure what I decent price is. I just kind of base it on pistol ammo which early 2020 I bought 1k 9mm for .26 per round. Now it is right at .42 for brass. Will post pics when it comes in.

you’re easily gonna be $1/rd at the very low end

For me, the strength of the .300blk is as a PDW. Light, fast, manageable with decent power. But, reloading is the only practical/affordable way of shooting it. It's hard to consider running drills with mag changes at $1 or more a round. If that is your intention.
But, knowing you can convert .223/5.56 brass or finding pre-converted brass at reasonable prices helps lower the reloading cost.
