Early Bronco Build…

Frustrated…. All the primer I laid down is lifting right off - zero adhesion! I have to hit all of it with a DA and 80-120 grit, wipe it all down with thinner and re-shoot all of it. I can’t shoot bedliner on non-adhering paint…. I’ll try self-etching primer after the DA…. Wondering if the rust converter left a zinc coating behind that prevented the primer from adhering. Mechanical removal, thinner, then self-etching primer then bedliner.

on an up side, the fenders lay perfectly on the inner fenders and I found a perfect grill and tailgate today.

That's a lot of work! Looks like you're doing a good job and it's coming along well.

Very cool and thanks for posting!

Thanks! It’s a labor of love. I call the garage my “happy place”.

“You’ll never work a day in your life if you love what you do!” Which is why I can “work” in the garage all weekend and feel completely refreshed and ready for Monday at the office.

Update…. Prep for xmas and Xmas both begins me, I spent the day running the DA and jitterbug to remove all of the flaking paint come the top side; wire wheeled the underside of the floors. Vacuumed and blew out the bed, floors and final prepped for primer and paint….

self etching primer stuck, grey auto primer stuck, combo of spray and brushed-on satin black rustoleum nailed it. It’s shaping up nicely and I’m very happy with how the top and bottom both look!

Once the exterior sees paint, I’ll bedline the top and under sides for additional protection.

I have a side project to bang out tomorrow morning (@Alabamacoastie) then will pull the doors out of storage to check alignment. I still need to order some stainless lift-off hinges.

I’ve been tied up with family and work stuff but getting back at it.

Ordered the full wiring harness, fender flares and a pair of roll cages - one for each bronco (saved $200 and free shipping!).

A few friends and family helped me move the body from the body cart to the frame. Body mount holes and the new body mounts on the frame lines up perfectly! I’m (sadly) getting good at repairing rust!

Sadly those perfect rear quarters are going to get cut for flares. I love the LUBR (Lifted Uncut BRonco) look but happy wife, happy life.

Next up is a little rust repair under the dash and installing a rebuilt heater box and the harness.

Big Sunday!

Finished body work on the driver rear quarter (corner needs a lot of work still!); rebuilt heater box and installed blower motor upgrade; reworked the dash panel…more below.

The front roll age hoop blocks the glovebox door from opening and limits access to the fuse box. As a solution, I shifted the glovebox door inward and moved the speaker hole outward. Turned out great!

I ordered and received two 6-point family roll cages for bronco 1 and bronco 2. My cage is in boxes still, but this is what it’ll look like once completed.

When traveling for past month (work) but I’m back in action!

New wiring harness 75% done. Dash installed along with all of the shiny stuff along with an aftermarket steering column.

I have a tentative paint date in late May so I’m in high gear to get it running, turning, stopping and 95% bodywork done to hit that date.

Crazy thing is that I’ll probably have the bronco painted before the mustang comes back from paint!! That’s the difference of a painter that wants to make money vs a shop that takes on side projects. Just is what it is.

Bronco 1 and Bronco 2... I am jealous, Sam I am!

These things were purchased as a rusty pile of parts. Only way I could afford 2. Slowly but surely, I’m getting bronco 1 done. Bronco 2 will be roadworthy even faster.

Steering done
Brakes done
Bodywork 70%
Cutting rear quarters tomorrow for bigger rubber.

Big order going in for interior, small parts, all the exterior bright work and lights.

Mustang painter said he’s going to coach me while shooting this truck so I’m pushing for paint in May.

Rear quarters cut - these are bald 31s. Truck will likely get 33s on aftermarket rims to fill the wheel wells.
Rear quarter body work 99% done
Steering 100% done
Brakes and park brake 100% done
Roll cage hoops welded together but not yet installed.
Wiring complete and long with the electronic ignition

Hood sanded and ready for closer inspection.
Need to install doors and skin the drivers side door.

Hoping next shipment arrives this week so I can finish the engine and test fire it!

Paint tentatively planned in May.

Passenger side >95%. Fenders and quarters cut for the flares, holes drilled for rivet nuts all around (over 100 rivet nuts to install all 4 flares!). Shot real primer / sealer on the pass quarter, door and door jams. Stuff is awesome!

Drivers side moving forward but I found the drivers doors I had in storage are both garbage. Need to order one to finish the drivers side off!
