The trip out west has been eventful so far.
Got this bull on 11/2. Looking at another on the ground now about a click away from me. And another heard with a legal bull up the hill from that with one more tag to fill from our trio of hunters.
Will try and update again later!

what are the rifles?

why suppressed?
My rifle is a 308 built on a rem 700 action.
My buddy Mike is shooting a 6.5 chambered AR.
we like hunting suppressed because we generally hunt longer ranges and each time we’ve taken an animal the heard doesn’t even respond to the shot. Today we almost doubled up on bulls because after the first bull went down, the heard just kept feeding. There was another legal bull and my other buddy got on to it and had a shot but choose to pass as it was right on our boundary line. Well go back out after him in the morning.

What state are you in? I assume you are doing a DIY public land?
Washington state. It’s referred to as the impossible hunt or the unicorn hunt because you can only harvest true spike elk in this unit. And yes, all diy. Weve been doing this for 20+ years

Are you going to eat them or what? Are they tasty?

(Obviously I know NOTHING about hunting....lol.)

That answered the question i didn’t ask...:)

I'm very jealous. I am making preliminary plans for a similar type of trip next year. I've never done it, and the planning is a bit daunting. I hadn't considered Washington state. How difficult are the tags to draw?

Congrats! I am heading out to Colorado next week for a six day elk hunt. I am really excited. It is my first time heading out there to hunt. Going with my father in law. He has been out there before. We are doing a guided hunt. 4x4 is the minimum we are allowed to shoot.

Tag is over the counter. No draw. But the success rate hovers around 1-4% last I checked. It’s horrible odds and we always know that but we really just enjoy spending time in the woods as a group

I hope our good luck continues on to your hunt sir!

@Traceround - I appreciate that. I’ll be making a post with pictures. Either way it is going to be a great trip.

Taking game animals is only a small part of hunting. Spending time with people you care about, and being out in mother nature is the most important part. The memories made will last a lot longer than the elk meat.

Already cut into steaks and burger and ready to travel back home to NC. We butcher all our own meat and enjoy that process as much as the hunt itself D1EEB8DD-72E2-4E93-84F1-36931C54135A.jpeg

The first picture is sunrise from the stand yesterday morning. The next few were from the blind this morning.

These last ones are from this evening. Nice property despite the problems finding elk.
