So I got some Amazon gift cards for Christmas (otherwise I'd buy elsewhere) and I am thinking of grabbing an Esse 4 (or maybe a Gerber Strongarm) because there isn't any other crap I want or need from there. My thing is I have heard of some manufactuer's not honoring warranties because the big A is a third party seller and not an authorized dealer. I thought I would ask the collective here and see if any of y'all had some insight.

And.... I don't want to get stuck with a chineseium knock off, either. Any tips on spotting fakes?

Thanks y'all!

I've bought all my Esses at Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Esse has a lifetime warranty. I'm a member on The Esse forum and their are section on fakes from Ebay and Amazon.. I use my Esse for all the time and it's used in the kitchen by me a lot.

If you want to avoid fakes, I tend to stick with items either sold by or shipped from Amazon or the maker of the product you are buying.

This. I bought a ZT off of Amazon one time and it looked like it was from their store but was fulfilled by another entity. I sent it in to ZT for some warranty work and they shipped it back with a note that it was a fake

That really sucks! Sorry you got taken.

phone charges and most anything electronic and cheap run close to 40% fakes.. I knew a Amazon mgr who quit who was in charge of returns . They would take back known fakes and put them right back into stock.. gotta keep those numbers up..https://www.amazon.com/s?k=acog+clo...refix=acog+,aps,300&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_9_5 and you support Chinese piracy. Clever labeling them airsoft scope. Trijicon is constantly under siege from Amazon knock offs.

I bought my buddy an esee of Amazon. It came new in box, sealed in protective plastic, with all warranty cards intact. Their warranty even says free replacement for life, no questions asked. Seeing as how the knives aren't serialized, i think your good to go as long as you get a real one.

This ^^^^
I spent a couple years tracking down counterfeit products on Amazon for work. If you buy from a 3rd party, even if it’s Prime, there is no guarantee it’s real. And Amazon doesn’t really care if products sold are real or fake.

I may have a few ESEE knives. I can't stress enough the ruggedness of them. I have an ESEE 5 that I have driven through trees with sledge hammers (many times), cut trees in half with ball peen hammers (many times) and dug deep holes in the ground (many times). I like most of them, but I love the ESEE 5. You will not be disappointed with their product.

Love my Esees

If it's real, then it doesnt matter where you bought it from. ESEE will replace it no matter what if it breaks. As long as you have a real one you are good. I just bought my ESEE from Amazon last week. Got the ESEE 5, then the MOLLE sheath and accessory pouch. Now I want the 4, 6 and Junglas.

Looks like ESEE has their own "store" on Amazon. Buy through them and you shouldn't have any issues.

Unfortunately, Amazon stores are just a directory to products and anyone can post on a particular product. In fact, Amazon’s rules require all listings for the same product to be under the same ASIN (item #).

I looked at both the 3 & 4 and most colors show Prime Valley aka P&S Products Inc as the main seller. I didn’t see any that were sold by ESEE or Amazon, so without doing a little more research into the seller, I wouldn’t buy off Amazon.

@agilmore01 which seller did you buy from?

How can you be sure the one you got from Amazon is not a counterfeit knife? Some of the counterfeits are very hard to spot.

Came from Blade HQ, a reputable dealer. Came in the full box and all the accoutrements:)

Sorry for probing, but was the seller on Amazon “Blade HQ” or did it just have Blade HQ labels somewhere. I didn’t notice Blade HQ on the listings I looked at, I’ll take a 2nd look.
I’ve seen the extents that counterfeiters will go to and how convincing fakes can be so I’m probably more skeptical than I should be at times.

Edit: n/m, I see BladeHQ on that ESEE 5. The fact that it’s a well known vendor outside of Amazon AND they are shipping themselves, not “ships from Amazon” is another good thing if authenticity is a concern. Amazon commingles inventory so Mr China and ESEE could both send item A to Amazon and Amazon will fulfill your order using whichever inventory is best for them, regardless of which seller you purchased from. This was a major problem for Nike.

The seller's name was Blade HQ, shipped by Amazon. It was their last one. Now it's a different seller listed.
Just curious, do counterfeits come with the box and all the parts sealed in plastic? I heard they usually just sell the plain knife with no sheath or anything else. I am learning here.

Sorry I just edited my post as you replied, but yes counterfeiters will go to impressive lengths to make an item look genuine. In my personal experience at work, they would make packaging that looked better than ours so consumers actually thought the genuine were fakes! I had to work with an industry group to put together an educational campaign to help consumers ID fakes since our products were 90% water filters (health concerns, plus damage to homes in case of catastrophic failures which did happen).

Thanks for the info. I was not aware of that. Learn something new everyday!

So going by the ESEE forum that was posted upstream, Prime Valley or P&S Products is a legit dealer per the folks at ESEE that have replied in said thread. According to them they couldn't use their company nname Tactical Intent because Amazon had a problem with the word "tactical" . I assume that was the impetus for the change to P&S?

Nice, good to know. And not surprised about the name change haha.

Chris Reeve Knives are often counterfeited, especially on fleabay, have not looked on amazon. They try to say it is a "CRK like" knife, but use the trademark CR on the knife, use identical looking labels on the box saying CRK and other paperwork in the box.

Did some digging and it appears Prime Valley is a reputable seller of ESEE knives on Amazon and is actually Tactical Intent (used an alternative business name because Amazon didn’t like Tactical)

Got her in! So far I'm digging it except for the somewhat lackluster, but functional sheath. Now I just gotta figure out how I want to carry it.
