I have a Kenwood TS 440 S that has the dreaded dot problem and I would like to get it fixed. I have seen several price ranges for this work and would like to see if there is someone local to nc that is qualified to fix this problem. Know of anyone? Looking for leads.

This is a tedious repair. I'd send it to Paul Jahnke. He's a nice guy and knows Kenwood repairs well.

I'd do the repair on my own radio, but don't consider it a worthwhile cost to pay someone else. The potting material is a bear to properly remove from under the components.

Good luck.

"IF" you are game to take the radio apart and look around here is a website that may help with the dot problem and a few other problems. http://www.oz1bxm.dk/TS440/TS440S_Repair_FAQ.pdf .
As for repairman. Kenwood East does not work on older radios anymore. There was a gentleman in Tn that worked on Kenwoods exclusively but I can't remember his name at the moment. Also might try Mike ??? In Winston Salem. He has about 3 repairman that work for him. I can find out his callsign and phone if you need me to. Sorry I don't have it handy at the moment.

Mike is at Triad Electronic Supply. He has a guy who does work on older Kenwoods, and from my experience does good work. You can give Mike a call and he will give you an honest appraisal as to what he can do. He is a great guy, and stands behind his work. Here is a link to his website.: http://www.triadelectronicsupply.com/services.htm
