Hello All,
So I'm looking to sell some pistols and AMMO in 40 cal to fund 9mm pistol and ammo purchases. It seems the Classifieds here are not yielding too much interest since Sunday.
Maybe I'm just inpatient, or maybe too new to the forum. Or heck, maybe i'm asking too much?

Have any of you had any experience selling on Gun Broker or similar national sites? The bid prices on the Ammo is way higher than what I am offering on the Forum. Not trying to gouge here with my new community neighbors.

Ya'lls input would be greatly appreciated.

First, welcome to the forum. I see you have some 40s&w listed, 600rd for $290. Seems pretty fair these days BUT I do think you have a couple things working against you. It’s .40. Some argue .40 is a dying caliber, dying or not it’s definitely much lower demand than 9mm. Second, you have 600rd but 6 different types, so people who like a specific brand may not be interested in the small quantity of their preferred brand.

That said, I’ve had no issues with GB, but find it much easier to deal with the crew here although members here tend to be more savvy buyers. So you can normally get a few more bucks on GB/Armslist. You have to decide if that’s worth it. With lower demand items, the larger audience of GB/Armslist may be exactly what you need.

Things to consider when listing here on the forum:

1. We’re a group of mostly very dedicated gun nuts. We know what we like and what things should cost. Almost everything will sell here “at the right price”. If something doesn’t sell here, either there’s no interest in it, the price isn’t motivating or the distance between buyer and seller is too great.

2. Those of us trying to sell here sometimes have to “bump” our listings. As time goes by, listings fall down the page and eventually right off the first page. Therefore, a prospective buyer may never even see it. Forum rules permit you to bump your listing to the top (anything posted to the thread does the trick. Some just post BTT which means Back To Top) once each 24 hours.

If you do that, your listing will eventually get seen by most everyone that’s active in the forum. On the other hand, if you bump your listing more frequently than once in 24 hours, you listing will get noticed by the forum moderators (not a good thing). ;) I’ve had a silly item for sale for maybe 6 months. Every once in a while, when I notice the item holding down papers on my desk , I remember to bump the listing. This has resulted in everyone on the forum seeing it (and me becoming a laughing stock. :()

Another reason for bumping your ad is that there are probably three types of buyers here. One needs something specific (.40 ammo, for example). That buyer will search around trying to find some. The second also knows what he needs and will post a “Wanted”. He wants sellers to come to him. The third (I’m usually one) sees something of interests pop up and says to himself, “Hey self, I wouldn’t mind having that”. That third type is better reached if your listing is higher up on the page.

About gun shows, they’re not really that expensive when renting a table. If you’ve got a few guns and a quantity of ammo, you just might make enough to pay for the table and then some.

Sunday to Tuesday is just a couple of days. Did you really expect stuff to sell in 48 hours or less?

Im gonna go with youre probably a little impatient. Ive had things for sale on here for two months before they sold. On the flip side, Ive also had stuff sell in just a coue of hours and seen some peoples stuff go in minutes. But that truly is not the norm. Most things take a little time.
Kick back, relax, chat with folks and bump your ad occasionally. You'll get there.
Now, that said, if you need money now, do what you gotta do.

@Stevo27295, another thing to consider, most of the people on this site have been here a while and know each other. Many of us have been together for years on different forums before this one. You're the new guy, not many know you yet. Jump in and participate in some conversations and people will soon get to know you. All of were the new guy at one time. You've only been on the forum for 2 weeks, give it some time.

I had to explain to a member in the last week that this is Not a Gun Selling & Buying Forum. It is damn near a family that can help if you need a Doc from Duke or a plumber from High Point.
The classifieds are only a Small part of what this forum is. I don't ever remember coming on here and going to Classified first. When the screen shows something "new" I check it out, otherwise I see what the family is up to.
I've had over 100 deals on GB, only one No Pay. If you are looking for All the money GB is where you need to be. Just remember there are small fees and shipping and other things to consider.

Thank you all for the great feedback. I really didn't expect the items to sell in 48 hours, I just thought there would be more "interest."
2 folks have PM'd so far.

Guns have been a "hobby" of mine for about the last 10-12 years, I would read items from this board from time to time and decided I would like to make some more like minded local friends! Posting on the ads was just one small reason I jumped in and joined.

Like Jeppo said, "gun nuts" is putting it nicely for many of us.
Less than a year ago that gun would have sat for more than 48hrs even at $100 less than what you're asking.
That being said, things are different now. Everything costs more and you're free to be capitalist. But demand for .40 isn't exactly screaming in the gun nut community. We watched the caliber rise 20some years ago and then fall again as advances in 9mm ammo showed .40 to be unnecessary. Right now, I've already got a couple of .40 pistols that I don't shoot much of, despite having a small pile of ammo.
If you want to make a quick sale, gunbroker or armslist or sell a $1 bag of chips on facebook for $301 and have the gun in the picture with it. Lots of people are looking there that aren't hung up on what a gun used to cost a year ago and don't already have a couple of higher end guns in that caliber.
