I am an eternal fan of local restaurants that serve a traditional breakfast. Six of them have closed inside of thirty minutes from me in the past five years. Makes me sad.

What’s your favorite, and why?

Mine is Tramway Diner off US 1 just south of Sanford. @motoman247

Why I like them.

a) they leave the check on the table as soon as they take your order. No waiting on the waitress when you are ready to get up and leave. Pay and tip at the door. Staff shares the tip in the restaurant as far as I know.

b) Long time staff. The place is just happy. They know all the locals. You can sometimes hear the guys (both white and black) in the kitchen singing to whatever country song is playing in the restaurant. It makes me smile every time.

c) great service

d) breakfast all day, and open every day.

e) they serve liver pudding, regular or fried up crispy.

Place must be good, they get mad busy around lunch. I've tried to eat there a couple of times and the line was out the door.

I'm not a big breakfast guy but maybe we can hit the place a little earlier sometime.

Not too many old local spots left around here. There are a bunch of new ones where you can get Avocado toast served up by a bearded 'lady' while undisciplined children scream in your ears.

If I want a waitress with chin whiskers I'm going to Waffle House which is my favorite breakfast spot anyhow.
But to your OP, Pressley Park Restaurant on Pressley Rd. makes good breakfast. I've been a customer over 25 years and they've been there forever. Why do Iike it? It's family owned and operated. There isn't anything gluten free or vegan on the menu. The customers are cops, construction workers and service techs - nobody brings their kids there.

Honorable mentions to Southern Gals in Robbinsville.

And B&B Restaurant outside Tellico Plains, TN. The oldest, crustiest local joint I’ve ever been, but the breakfast is good and at any given time there’ll be four generations of the owner’s kin in there.

Tramway Diner is my second favorite breakfast place. Angies Restaraunt in Garner is awesome.

Jeff and Lisa’s Brickhouse Grill in Sanford used to be #1, but unfortunately they closed a year or so back. Different restaraunt there now and nowhere near as good as Jeff’s cooking.

I used to ride out there every once in awhile.

Learned that you only need order one pancake with breakfast.

If you’re ever up on the west side of Charlotte check out the Circle G or The Stockyard on Rozelles Ferry Rd. When you see service trucks work vans in the parking lot you know what’s up.

Joey's in Maggie Valley
Lucy in the Rye in Sylva
Heartland Grill in Washington
Diggers Dinner in Duck
Diamond Sholes in Hatteras
Cafe Pamlico also in Hatteras
Pony Island on Ocracoke
Dajio on Ocracoke

We loooove Famous Toastery (formerly Toast before they began franchising). Been to 4-5 locations around CLT and it’s always great. My MIL, a heavy coffee drinker, particularly likes their coffee. Service is always excellent, only downside is their tables are small and plates are large.

Wow. It's been, I don't know, 45 years or so since I ate at those two places. Surprised they're still around. I take that as a good sign.

.

I love going to 4th Street Filling Station for brunch on Sundays
I usually get the eggs benedict, wife likes the french toast
We can go to a nicer place and be full for about 35 bucks out the door. Maybe about 38.

Park Restaurant in Burlington.
Brownie Lu in Siler
Eggs Up Grill in Shallotte
Backyard grill in climax used to do a breakfast buffet on Saturday and Sunday. They’d be packed. The owners a douchebag but a buddy of mine was running the kitchen at the time. Ig go every weekend and eat breakfast. They stopped it during Covid.

Brownie Lu’s shut down not long ago. They had a solid breakfast. And up until 2010ish their fried chicken was best in NC, or at least that is my professional expert opinion 🤣.

The 2 best places in Siler now are Crossroads Grill and Down Town Cafe. If you are in a rush, Crossroads on 324 E 11th St (Hwy 64) is great and will have you on your way fairly quick.

If you are in a sit down mood, then hit up Down Town Cafe at 113 W. Raleigh St. great little sit down place with great food. Like @fieldgrade said, you will only need 1 pancake. Me and the wife will usually split an order of (2) pancakes and then get a side of our favorite style eggs and breakfast meat.

A few years ago, we went there about 45 minutes before their closing time and when we walked in they were seriously rude about being too close to closing and refused to seat us. / Never went back.

Liked that Finn-cools but they got harassed out of business for being a homosexual couple, even though they were born and raised in Siler City and shut down. Who cares? If you run a good restaurant and ice cream joint what does our private behavior matter?

Not familiar with it, have to give it a try.

Same as above.

I’m sure, though, from your past profession you know where all the good places to eat are… yes I’m stereotyping :p

This is only one issue on a long list. That caused them to close.

At least you didn’t ask for the best place to get donuts 🤣.

The Diner in downtown Smithfield NC. And another nod to Angie's in Garner. If you want to immerse into a wretched hive of scum and villainy (politicians) along with a great breakfast, then Big Ed's in the City Market downtown Raleigh is great. There's a little place at Capital Blvd/Atlantic Avenue Watkins Grill that's very good.

Watkins is great.

I’m still looking for a great place in Wilmington. Saw Mill is hit or miss. Jimbos is same. Eggs up has great grits but everything else sucks.

I always try to squeeze a late breakfast in after the morning rush but well before lunch. So I drove to Angies. Got there at 9:45-10.

Not one place to park.

Carolina Diner is good to go in Archdale if your in that area. Breakfast anytime and about anything else you want. Steady diet of oldies played for everyone to hear in the background. Good service.

Watkins is good but a dump. Seems like everytime I went Donnie Harrison former Wake county Sheriff was always there.

Fairview Dairy bar in Sanford is good, also Landmark in Sanford. Mrs Wengers got some bang up biscuits too.

I didn’t know Brownie Lu closed. And I haven’t been to downtown cafe. We will have to check them out

Is Kidds Drive in still open in Liberty NC ate many a bacon egg and cheese samwich there in the late seventies early eighties.

I like dumps.

It’s like good barbecue and high sanitation ratings.

Everybody knows you can make good barbecue, and you can get high sanitation ratings, but you can’t do both.

Yeah, there’s been times that I’ve had to park in the grassy lot next door.

Seems like there is a 9:30 - 11 “rush hour” at Angies when all the geezers come over (no offense Ashe….). It’s best to arrive before that.

Eggs Up Grill in Shallotte
1st one listed that I've ate at! And OH YEAH. We ate there three times in a 4 day trip!

Abele's ("ABE-uh-lees") in Morganton-awesome all-you-can-eat buffet bar and pretty good menu items.

Cagney's Kitchen in Wilkesboro (good anytime but breakfast SHINES.) Went there for the first time (for breakfast) a couple years ago. Four of us, and a wide variety of foods (one heaping traditional breakfast, one vegetarian omelet, one regular omelet, and I ordered two country ham biscuits, thinking they were overpriced at 4.25 each-UNTIL THEY CAME OUT...). My biscuit were awesome and they were cat head biscuits! Everyone said theirs was off the chain good.

Elviras in Wears Valley TN. Great breakfast and shes a hoot to talk to also. Very conservative and got no use for woke.

We used to have breakfast at Claudine's in Rich Square when hunting wood ducks on my FIL's farm in Woodland. Always had a good breakfast.

The Buttered Biscuit in Waynesville is pretty good too.

For me, breakfast time is over at 7:59am. But I'm a bit of an early riser.
