OK boys and girls... here's the target for this next challenge. DING DONG, time to ring the bells. This is a variant of the "ring my bell" target from papertargets.net

Scoring will be as follows:

Bottom Row (large bell)

1644106170503.png

Middle Row (medium bell)
1644106354684.png

Top Row (small bell)

1644106428040.png

15 bells per sheet. 1 shot per bell
A shot striking any part of the "black" bell is worth 5 points
Any shot outside the bell is counted as a miss
Any shot breaking the edge gets the higher point value
150 points max score. Ties will be broken with the highest number of bullseye/center shots

I'll be the first to jump in the pool. Forgive the poor quality as my printer/scanner just isn't picking up some of the scoring rings very well. I had to use a colored sheet of paper in the background for the scanner to show the bullet holes.

SCORE = 124

Marlin 917V
Mueller 8.5-25 x 44 optic
Hornady .17HMR 17gr Varmint Express ammo
Front rest & rear bag

Very chilly and breezy yesterday morning. Temps in the upper 30's with about a 5-10mph wind. Brrr..

This is for 22LR only or any 22 cal. projectile?
NVM. I see the word "rimfire" now. I may have to dust off some of my old 22LR rifles. This looks like fun.
You can shoot it with anything you want.

But only the rimfire scores will count. Post the others up for giggles.

😁

(I’ve often wondered if I could do better with a 5.56 rifle…but I don’t have anything coped with more than 7X at this point)

I do think we need to go back to using rimfire in the title. Unless we’re going to limit it to 22LR (which works for me).

So, will it be 22LR or any rimfire? I was thinking about dusting off my old Marlin 22 Mag. Looks like fun. :)

I'll give it a shot with the 22LR. My best hole puncher at the moment is my Windham VEX. I'm going to try it with the VEX as well just for fun.

Shoot it with whatever you want. We don’t have a trophy or anything, just having fun! If they allow it and you win, even more fun!!!

I shoot it with a pellet rifle each month, just for fun.

We had this discussion a few months ago about what was eligible for the challenge and we came to the agreement that anyone can shoot the challenge with anything they would like. The only guns that would be scored in the challenge would be 22 long rifle. Everyone please shoot with anything that you enjoy shooting, the thing that makes these games fun is to have as many people shooting as we can get. The way to keep the game on equal playing level is to put a limit on what gun is eligible for challenge score. I hope everyone understands. Please shoot, share your photos, and enjoy yourselves. This is a "just for fun" game so lets have some fun. Thank you. 🙂

I looked through the safe today at my 22LR rifles and realized when I was teaching my grandson to shoot I replaced all the scopes with red dots. He was so young he had trouble closing one eye for the magnification scopes. I need to buy another magnification type scope for those rifles. I'm going to shoot it with my VEX just for fun this go around and hopefully I'll have a scope for my rimfires by this time next month.

Forecast is looking great so far, for this weekend. If the wind stays down it will be perfect shooting weather! I'm going to get my targets printed off and be ready to go. 😎

Ordered my scope and mount today. It should be here Friday. I'm excited to try this out. Thinking about ordering some upgrade parts and accurizing the old 10/22 if this is going to be a monthly thing.

We have been doing this on a bi-monthly basis for the past couple of years. Doing every other month gives us a little more time to get more shooters to play. It will be great having you join us. 🙂

Not my best effort, but the wind was playing with me a little, so I'll take it.
Bergara BMR 22lr, Athlon Helos BTR 2-12x42, TBAC Takedown 22 supressor, shooting Eley Club off front bag only.
55 degrees, overcast, rained about 2 hours ago, wind 5-8 mph quartering in from right to left.

Shoot it from the kitchen table? 😁

Finally got all my stuff in and got it all installed this afternoon.

I went from this....

On my way to the range now to sight it in and hopefully get the current competition target shot. What are you guys using for ammo? Is there really such a thing as match grade 22 LR or is it just hype?

Nice upgrades!!!

Match 22lr is definitely a real thing. The most important thing is figuring out what your rifle likes. CCI SV is one of the best cheap ammo choices, as bg7m suggested. You are usually better off going with standard velocity over high velocity for consistency. How much you want to spend correlates to how tiny the targets are that you want to consistently hit. And if going past 50 yards, spending up is even more important, as that consistency spreads out wide when going out to 100.

While some of my rifles do ok with CCI up to 50 yards, I have always found higher level ammo to be more consistent. SK Std isn’t usually much more, but in some rifles has been more consistent for me, but not enough for me to buy much. Others have seen more improvement. I have found enough of a consistency improvement moving up to something like SK Rifle Match to warrant it for shooting tiny groups. Lapau Center X has improved consistency even more and has always delivered better scores for me. One of my rifles liked a batch of Eley Match better. I have way fewer fliers with the higher level stuff.

With 22lr, lots make a big difference when you are trying to shoot sub-MOA. Your rifle can love some lots and hate others of the same model ammo. I have had some great lots of SK Rifle Match, but have had some lots that my rifle hates.

I would always suggest trying out some lots of CCI to try out. You can probably stay near MOA, if you find a lot your rifle likes. Just don’t be mad at the fliers you will get.

I have not been active on much so far, but thought I would try the rimfire as I have a couple of decent rifles. The Martini was on a rest and bag in rear, the Sako was bi-pod and bag in rear. Ok gun pics, upper is a BSA Martini MK II International.

The lower is a Sako Quad 4 frame with a Lilja barrel. Both scopes are Vortex gen I Strike Eagle 6-24. The rubber bands on Martini hold a piece of foam to stop extractions from hitting scope.
Those rifles look great! I really like the Sako.

I was going to give this another try with the .22 but it was waaaaay too windy this morning. Gusting 15+ and switching conditions, so I opted to save the ammo. maybe next weekend...

Okay, I gave this a shot because I got a Volquartsen. I threw a Trijicon Accupoint 1-8 LVPO on it because I had it laying around already mounted in rings. The crosshairs are nifty for shooting people sized targets, but way wide for this game. They completely covered the top row bells, so the game was cover the bell and center the reticle using the other bells in the row.
Also, a 10-15 mph wind from the SW was along to play today too. Here's my probably scored wrong target.20220324_152525.jpg

Here's the rifle I shot with, off a Caldwell front rest and rear bag. I only brought CCI standard and old (Lapua) Wolf Match Target. The Wolf would string, gun no likey. The CCI was pretty solid. Here's my sighting targets I used to choose today's ammo, you can tell which is which...the flier on the CCI was totally me.

I made a quick trip out to the range this evening. Not so good! 🤔 I tried some Aguila Rifle Match Competition in my CZ 455 with Athlon Helos BTR and I could only muster up a 117. Seems like this stuff is all over the place, but it's fun to try different ammo. I can hope for better luck next time. 😃 IMG_20220325_195836.jpgIMG_20220325_183147.jpgIMG_20220325_183142.jpg

Oldmanhub would like to let someone else pick a target, so if there are any ideas for targets lets hear them and we can all decide which would be good. 😅

Here's one. Hostage target. Scoring is marked right on the target. Tiebreaker can be total headshots.

Edit...one shot per terrorist...you have to choose between a head shot and a body shot...this is a 9 total shot target. Top bullseye is just for sighters.
I think it looks like a good target. Probably negative points for hitting hostage? Could be 2 shots at each figure, one at head and one at body. What is everyone's thoughts?

The negative points for hitting a hostage are labeled on the target. 😝

I’d vote for one shot per target. If you want two shots, shoot two targets. Pretty sure that’s how we did it the first time.

Lets go on the timer....
.75" dotsx5, one minute, five shots.
Repeat for next row

I'm also thinking 1 shot per target, most perfect headshots for tiebreaker. Hostages are negative points.
