Federal Hydra Shok ammo?

I know this ammo (specifically 9mm 147gr Hydra Shok) has been around a while and there are currently better choices, but is this still a "solid" bullet choice? I currently carry Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots but my carry ammo needs replacing. I would like 147gr GDs but can't find them.

I saw one Ballistics gel test of the 147gr Hydra Shok ammo and it didn't expand well but that was just one test...may be many factors why it didn't expand in that instance

I'm not familiar with Hydrashocks in 9mm. I do have some in a .45 and .380, both seem to preform quite well in YouTube testing. I do have 147 grain Federal HST's in my carry gun and they seem to do awesome in YouTube gel tests. I dug a dozen 9mm HST's out of a berm I used as a backstop, and they expanded just like the picture on the box. I know that's not scientific, but it looked cool haha.

I had some 147 grain Gold Dots years ago, but like you said, hard to find them.

There are much better choices available. Hydrashoks have a tendency to plug up and not expand.

After seeing too many bad tests of Hydrashoks I have gone to Gold Dots, HSTs, or Ranger Ts. Whatever I can find in 147gr at a reasonable price...

I've been carrying 9mm HST 147+p in my 43. Everything I've read about them was good but I haven't had a chance to shoot any yet.
I carry 380 Sig Vcrown in my LCP custom. Tests showed them as penetrating and expanding good, plus they cycle like clockwork.

I have a shitload of 147gr Hydrashoks from back in the day. While I've gone to HSTs in my EDC I do have the Hydrashoks loaded up in my suppressed home defense MPX.

Regardless of the reviews or bad press Hydrashoks have I don't want to get shot with one : )

Another vote for HSTs. I carry either 124+p or 147.

I carry HST in my 40 but not 9. I do have some hydra-shok too. All my 9s get Speer GDHP 124+P.

Hydrashoks are notorious for failing to expand and the center post simply breaking off and not forcing expansion.

Ranger, Gold Dots, and HST are all better options regardless of which weight you go with.
