Personally, it scares the crap outta me to ship a gun. I have several horror stories about shipping other things, then the packages getting damaged or lost, and UPS, FedEx denying my insurance claims. I HAVE NEVER HAD A SINGLE CLAIM COME BACK IN MY FAVOR. The worst one... I shipped 2 rather heavy (80ish pounds per) hi pot testers (belonged to a good customer) to Las Vegas area for NIST calibration. I foam wrapped, bubble wrapped and boxed each unit separately in boxes that were only a couple inches bigger than the units. I then placed each one of those boxes inside another larger box (separately) that was completely stuffed with peanuts and air pillow packing material. That outside box was double corrugated. I sealed each carefully. Upon arrival, my vendor called me and sent me messages with pics. Both units were damaged in shipping! One looked like it had been dropped out of a plane. The other actually had a forklift fork shaped hole in it. UPS said I had to get them back and then file a claim. I refused, as I was afraid they would be more damaged. After a week of phone calls, I convinced them to go to the vendors site to check them out. Upon checking the units, they deemed the squashed one to be non working BEFORE SHIPPING (it wasn't, but how would they have known either way?)! The one with the hole in it? They said it was improperly packaged! What was I supposed to do.... weld them into a steel box? A fork had been ran through the outside box, into the inside box, and penetrated a cooling fan, damaging the circuit board beyond repair. These were $8-10K units, and both were destroyed. I lost that customer over those 2 units. I had shipped the exact same type units before, in the exact same manner, to a cal lab up north with no issues. That was 15 years ago. UPS insurance is a scam!
