They were going to have their human sacrifice.

This. Exactly this. The facts don't matter. The uninformed demand a head in a bucket. That's what they'll get.

Nothing that is happening today is new. Rome? Greece? Egypt? Europe? The more power a government gets the more it placates the masses by bowing to their will on "unimportant" stuff. The more that powerful government is able to blame and punish others for the problems of the masses, the less blame falls on that government.

If you'll look back through history, all of this has happened literally dozens of times. Our modern versions aren't any better than feeding peasants to the lions for sport. In a way their we're worse. Society is pretending that his sacrifice is righteous and not just entertainment for frustrated peasants. But that's all it is. The peasants want to see SOMEBODY..... ANYBODY... suffer more than they are. So the powers that be give them that to keep them calm. Throw in a stimulus check every year or so and they put their thumbs back in their mouths and go back to sleep.

I had a close friend that has since crossed the river. He was tried twice for the same incident. He was tried for Murder by The State and found Not Guilty. He was then tried by the Federal Government for Civil Rights Violations and found Not Guilty. They tried Every year from 1968 until his death 3 years ago to find a way to try him again. One of a very few cases where "if they want you..they will have you" failed miserably. He retired form the S.C. Highway Patrol in 1993 with 40 years of service. He was my friend and I miss him.

After the Feds got a Guilty verdict on Byron De La Beckwith there was a renewed push to get my friend before he died. He was the last alive of 5 charged with murder and then civil rights violations. I spoke to him about a month before he crossed. He crossed the river with a clear conscience.
