Finally! Wake Range Re-Opens to the public 10/02/20

Good news indeed. TSA in Raleigh has open all lanes no reservations needed. Perhaps based on sq ft of the building?

I'm not arguing, but it seems like the ventilation system in the wake range should help greatly with reducing covid exposure.

That's the good news.

Now the caveat. In order to comply with Covid-19 occupancy/distancing protocols, access to the facility is by reservation only. The link to the reservation system and other virus related detail is included on the NCWRC website.
Pardon my denseness, but there are a couple of things that were not clear to me when I read the rules on the site. That is a clue that I need to ask someone :)

1. Is attending a safety briefing required for every range visit? [The pdf of the rules reads like it is.]
2. Does one have to reserve a lane in order to come and get the range pass? In other words, can one come JUST to get the range pass, and if so, is lane registration required? If so, how long would you guess that would take?
3. Is it biting off too much to make one trip with the intent of both getting the range pass (waiver, briefing, and registration) AND shooting?

I appreciate the insight. Don't want to make it harder than it is, but don't want to waste a trip either due to some misunderstanding.

I will answer as best I can. Please understand, the lane reservation process is being implemented only while under state mandated Covid safety protocols. NCWRC worked with Wake County government (owner of the facility) to reach this compromise allowing opening to the public now rather than later.

Under normal operations, the answer is NO. The video and briefing are required once per year.

While under covid restrictions, you will be directed to classroom to sign in and must remain through video and briefing. Unfortunate but, necessary. The process takes 15 minutes.

While under covid restrictions, NCWRC will not be issuing range passes without reservations. The reservation is for a shooting lane and one must have the range pass to shoot. The video, briefing and sign in process takes maximum 15 minutes.

In other words to answer your question, you may not drop by to obtain a range pass only.

NCWRC wants the public on the range shooting!

I used to visit a lot and they had the side doors open in the winter and summer.

Can we use our existing range card on file?
