Firewood

Pretty sure that is the caliber boojum is carrying 🤔 🤣

Anybody done any “testing” on whether the holz hausen stack method does any better than normal straight stacks?

That’s OK, drive through Hickory and don’t call for lunch. That would hurt my feelings if I had feelings!
I had that woman from another planet with me. We didn’t know we were actually going to go due to the sketchy weather forecast until we just said screw it, and left, and got rained on.

Very large double. Was a gnarly base all rooted up on the back side and a deeper rut (from a log that was there and caused it) in the front. My knees are gone and have a terrible time with uneven ground.
This was fun. Go slow and hope they done split. The stem on the left wanted to go out in the field hard left. The stem on the right wanted to go back to the right but behind me in the yard. (behind me in bottom picture) That was a “that can’t happen” so we tried to make sure it didn’t. Thats why they can’t split apart.
It was rotten at the base. Water was pouring out of the face cut like a water fall. Binding the saw.

But she went where she was told, right over the other log. Keeps it out of the dirt when buckin’ it up.

Surprised y’all don’t talk about wood splitters in this thread, best setup right here. The pics are from last year. Get to get back in it in December when I’m off from school, cut down some white oaks and a few reds over the summer and they’ll need to be worked up sometime.

Oh yeah gotta cut down a pecan tree for my father given his fear of it falling on a building of his. Tree ain’t too big, might need to see if any of y’all want the wood for smoking or something, otherwise it’ll get to rot in the woods or go in the firepit. Stay tuned for that may not cut it down this year

We like pecan around here. @Chdamn and I might come get some

I bought a wood splitter from a member here last year. Leaking fluid around the filter. Need to drain the tank and re weld around the threaded nipple that the filter screws on to. Gonna replace the hoses this winter. Put a new carb on it a few months ago and split a big hickory with it that fell in a friends yard. On the way to his house to cut the tree up and split it, one of the wheel bearings gave out(of course). Trailered it home and bought new wheels and tires that had bearings and seals in them from northern tool. Replaced those a couple weeks ago. Hopefully those will last a few years. This thing has split a LOT of wood. But it’s still strong.

Sounds like it will be as good as new, eventually... 🤷

Doesn’t need to be good as new. It’s well used and looks it. I’m ok with that. Those I beams aren’t going anywhere, but the consumables(hoses, wheel bearings, other parts) will need some help on occasion.

It’s a young tree, probably not more than 10-12ish years old. We planted it and then about 2 years later built a building a bit too close to it without thinking, so yeah.

Always heard some folks like it for smoking up meat and figured it’d be more use for that instead of just rotting away.

Dunno if the old man would wanna put it in our fireplace, he’s particular about it cuz of creosote ya know. Neither of us know if pecan makes it bad like pine.

Any nut bearing wood really , or hardwood is good for burning or smoking really depending on what you’re cooking. Oak makes tasty beef.
