First Dutch oven apple pies

That looks awesome! How long did they have to cook?

Looks soooo good!
Back in my Boy Scout days we used
Bisquick and canned pie filling straight into the Dutch oven at the camp fire
I remember we faired like kings around the campfire!

Now you got me looking at cast iron Dutch ovens that have the camp style lid for charcoal. Thank you very much.

That’s a big 16 inch'r I cooked the pies in.
It will be use strictly as an oven in camp, and wanted it big enough to fit the other cast iron dishes/ pans I have.
There are tons of sizes and styles, I’m sure you’ll find something to fit your needs.

While looking I saw a really neat chart that listed the size of oven versus desired temperature and how many charcoal to put on top and underneath to achieve it. I may still have it on the PC and will share it if I can find it.

Lodge website has it. And the googler too.
usually double the diameter number in briquettes.
Then 1/3 on bottom and the rest on top will get to 350 deg.

We just lined the bottom of the oven with canned biscuits. From what I remember there was never any left.

Wow! That's a big'un! We have two small 8" ovens that we use while camping. I'd love to have a big one!
