Need some suggestions for my first suppressor ,looking for 9mm and possibly 22,preferably not super expensive and on the shorter side
I’ve heard good things about the obsidian 9 not sure if this is the route I should take.

What hosts do you have or thinking of acquiring?

Personally I’d say start with a quality rimfire (Thunder Beast 22 TD) … you’ll shot it way more than any other can you’ll own if you’re like me. After that a 9mm can for fun is next … since subsonic 9mm ammo is pretty quiet.

Host = gun you’ll run the can on …

A Charger with a can is wicked fun … you also gotta have a bolt .22 too … they really show how quiet a can is.

As to those sub-compact Glocks … I have no experience with that size … a G19 is as small as I have suppressed.

How much do you want to spend on 22 suppressor? For $200+stamp you can get an aluminum suppressor only rated for 22 or for $400+ stamp you can get something that will handle 17 hmr, 5.7, and other small bore calibers. I have a scilencerco warlock ii which is a $200 aluminum can that only weights 4 oz. It was 100% impulse buy that I added when I bought my sandman s a couple years ago. I love it and do not regret it but there’s better options if you want something rated for more than 22lr.

Have you ever shot one? That would be the first step. I suggest that for everybody so you don’t spend the $$, endure the wait, and then be disappointed your first time out.

For the most part, shooting suppressed handguns (other than 22) just aren’t a lot of fun. PCCs are a different story.

You have a plan for acquiring them at your age?

just gotta find one at a reasonable price..
…and a way to buy one since you’re <21.

There are ways, just checking to see if you’re aware of that.

I didn’t know that I had to be 21 but how would I go about doing that ?
I don’t mind waiting till I’m 21 I’m not in a rush it’s not necessary just wanted something to have fun with at my range at home.
Yep. Gotta be 21 to buy from a dealer. So your options are really:
1. Find an individual/estate/etc selling one.
2. Form a trust/corp/LLC with somebody at least 21, let them handle the paperwork, and then you can possess the item as a Responsible Person of the entity you created.

Scott @TARHEELSTATE sometimes knows of individuals/entities/estates wanting to sell one. I’d check with him if you wanted to buy it as an individual.

My friend said they’d sell me their old obsidian 9,how would I go about legally purchasing it ?never purchased any nfa items
You fill out a Form 4 with him as the transferor and you as the transferee…assuming you’re in the same state. No FFL involved.

…and to answer your question about THSF not being on here 😉, call/email him. I talked to him yesterday. He’s a sponsor here, just doesn’t visit often. You’ll get lots of recommendations to use him.
