I haven't been fishing in 7 years. I assume I need to replace the line ( I was using spider wire) and clean and lube the reels. What's the best lube to use?

ATM what should I use for pan fish? Crikets ,worms? Never was a awesome fisherman but I'm going to try! :)

I'd replace the line with some light mono or flouro if you are just pan fishing. Reels usually need some grease in the gear and maybe some oil in other areas. Depends on the reel.

Light mono for pan fish. Clean the reel after stripping old line. Unless you use the reel a lot, the internals are probably ok.

Has the rod been in storage ?
And out of the sun and weather?
Your spider wire might still be ok, what lb test is it?
If it's spooled to max on the reel you could strip off 10 feet and tie on a 4-6' mono leader and get by, depending.
Just about any bait will catch panfish. Worms are always a good bet.

The rods have been in a storage shed at my parents house, heading over there tonight to get them out and clean out my tackle boxs.

I believe I have 12lb on the main caster I used. Was going for catfish at the time. I have a small 5' rod that will be good for panfish. I will be going to a few small ponds I know.

Should I try for something else? Not sure what all is in the ponds. Also would you try lake Wylie? Heard a few people say not to eat the fish from it! Lol

Lake Wylie is slap full of eating sized catfish. My brother and I used to catch them by the cooler full. We're still alive. My pee glows in the dark a little bit its kinda neat

Went to draper near my house. Cought a few channel cats. Only one was big enough to keep so he got thrown back before I left. I had alot of fun tho :) hope to go again this weekend.

The great thing about fishing is even a slow day or small fish can be fun. We used to fish pan fish only the first day of our annual college trip. We'd fillet a crap load of sunny's and crappie and do a big fry the first night. Set the tone for the weekend. Fun first.
