The hybrid car-aircraft, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine
and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel. It takes two minutes and 15 seconds
to transform from car into aircraft. The certification followed 70 hours of flight testing
and more than 200 take-offs and landings, the company said.

If maintenance is left up to the owners, I foresee the whole flying-car concept turning into a disaster. Perks of being a mechanic too long and seeing the kind’ve crap people will ignore.

You think the FAA would allow people to work on them without a&p?

Just wait till people find out how much aircraft maintenance costs. Add in the added wear and tear of driving one on the road I can only imagine the small fortune it would cost to keep one deemed air worthy.

Oh.. and log books.. I hope people can keep up with them better than their titles. LOL.

It’s an awesome concept though, I’ll give it that.

Tell your kids to study to become air traffic controllers. I have a feeling that field in general is going to be a hot one.

I once worked with a guy who’s dad flew a single seat kit helicopter to work and back from Sharon SC to Rock Hill SC. 45 minute drive so probably only a 20 minute flight, and the stories he told about running out of gas and misc mechanical problems in flight convinced me that his generation was much ballsyer than mine.

Eh I don’t think guts is the issue. Cost of entry is the problem IMO. Required maintenance, certs, .gov red tape. I’d LOVE to get a rotary license, just can’t stomach spending that kinda money to do it.
