I’ve got several old style dewalt tools that are still good. Batteries are shot and I didn’t feel like spending the money to buy new ones since I have a complete set of Milwaukee tools and got a deal on batteries for them awhile back.

Was looking for something unrelated on Amazon and came across this.

I shook my head and said dammit why didn’t I think of that.

You can use the new slide style batteries on the old tools. Dewalt or Milwaukee.

And it works.

I still have a couple 18v tools left. I have the adapter that Dewalt made. I didn't know they had 18v DW to Milwaukee.
This one claims you can use dewalt or Milwaukee batteries. I don’t have any sliding dewalt batteries to try it with.

Nice find! I bought one similar to use ryobi tools with my milwaukee batteries. Mainly just to be able to buy or use a cheaper brand tool on same battery platform mainly for tools i wouldn't use very often or need top quality. Used it with brad nailer and planner and worked great.

I use adapters like that a lot. I'm a Makita guy but have a handful of random tools by others to fill gaps in the Makita lineup. I use those adapters so I can use one type of battery. I also have charge bank ones and wired blocks to use the batteries for anything you can run off 18v. Amazon has them for just about everything...

I already bought a power wheels adapter; have to find the time to make it do something.

If its for a powerwheels your kid will love it and you will be much happier so make it happen if you can.

I have the 18 to 20 Dewalt adapter. Only down side I can see is that if you leave a 20v battery on an adapted tool, the battery will drain even while not in use. Might be peculiar to Dewalt only.

All I know is that all the “Craftsman” batteries are not great😁

I have a lot of craftsman battery stuff but it’s for home use only.
All the guys I know who use battery tools for a living are dewalt

Do they make an adapter for the old 12v to use the new 20v? All of mine were 12v.

In theory it should work but be hard on the tool or under perform if it wasn't designed for the other voltage and there was a big difference. With that said i have ran an old 12v and a 14v tool off a car battery before with a set of jumper leads and did fine but they due draw a decent amount of current so use decent size wire. To your question i have not seen a premade one for a different voltage when I looked a while back.

I had 2 of my old 12v Dewalt batteries rebuilt at Batteries Plus several years ago. At the time, rebuilding was about 1/2 the cost of new batteries and both only lasted a little over a year, and I believe they had a 1 yr warranty. I don't see the rebuild service listed on their website any longer. I have since upgraded to the 20v tools.

Hear that!
I have an adapter for pencil soldering iron....works great but definitely have to completely remove adapter or it will suck the life out of the battery to the point of needing life support jump tickle to be able to properly recharge.

One I use and heats quick!
