It's nice to be on a forum and not have to explain NC liquor laws. We (my family) do not prefer sweet bourbons / whiskey. We've kind of settled in on Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and Wild Turkey Rye (if we want it a little dryer). They seem to be the best bang for the buck. We dive into scotch every now and then, but our brands are pricey.

Someone recommended 4 Roses. Any other thoughts on less-sweet options in the 'best for your money' category?

Poor white trash here with very low expectations but for my sub $20 pour I really like Fighting Cock bourbon. Bottom shelf 104 octane. I like it neat, it does have some burn but it's not unpleasant.

My palette isn't sophisticated enough to say what is sweet or not, but I can tell you what my (as of now) favorite bourbons are.

In this order;

1) Russell's Reserve single barrel select.

2) TX.

3) Early Times bottled in bond.
