For you hard of hearing vets

The kids got me a sound bar for the TV for Christmas. I could hear the TV but frequently couldn't follow the dialogue even when turned up. The sound bar gives the spoken words distinction and I can make out everything at a much lower volume. Highly recommended.
What kind is it?

I would also be interested in the brand and model. I have looked at several but have not bought one yet. I have tinnitus so this may help me.

Not a Vet but have hearing loss. Would love to know the model of sound bar! Want to try that before I go to headphones.

Solid advice - we just have a basic Samsung bar, probably 10+ years old but it is light years better than trying to understand the tinny speakers on the actual tv. I suspect you can get a much better one now for nothing, but this thing is still plugging along fine and works with a universal remote.

I think the manufacturers expect you are going to use a separate sound system with any new TV these days, so they don’t put any money into onboard speakers.

I got a good quality set of Bluetooth noise canceling g headphones. I got them so I could watch something while the wife slept on the couch or read a book or whatever. Awesome benefit I hadn’t counted on was cleaner dialog. I use them now even when we’re all watching together.

I posted here last year I think, trying to figure out how to use the headphones without muting the TV speakers. I think it was an add-on device that made that work, but are there TV's that have that option now?

I use a Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into a USB port on the TV. TV was new 18 months ago and is a basic TCL/Roku brand.

What! 🤣

I have a Bose Solo 5 that does really good for dialogue, it also has a noise leveling feature that keeps explosions from drowning out the speech.

The only issue I have with it is it isn't very loud for when you want the theater experience.

We've used a "sound base"...basically a self contained sound bar that's built to act as a platform to set the TV on top of. It's cleaner looking than a sound bar.
Unfortunately, I think they're discontinued now.

The better change in voice clarity was actually getting hearing aids from Costco.

lots of us here share hearing loss and tinnitus... is there something we all have in common that contributes to that?
Exposure to high decibel noise. Mine was military: gunfire, riding in tactical vehicles, aircraft, running tank engines outside of the tanks, that sort of thing. The M561 Gamma Goat was so noisy that shooting type ear protectors were just about manditory if you were in the tractor part.

An audiologist I saw has tinnitus and hearing loss from rock concerts so it can come from different sources.

Helicopters (military and healthcare)/aircraft, guns, vehicles (military and ambulance/rescue), left eardrum burst twice. My last military physical I had to get a waiver because I couldn't hear higher frequency beeps (tones?) on the hearing test. There's noticable loss and I'm very happy it's not worse.

Tractor pulls, dirt track racing junk cars with open headers, guns, fireworks, the yellow Sony Sport Walkman everybody had in 1988 turned up to 11.

I tried hearing aids, good ones, and they were more trouble than they are worth. They worked ok, but sometimes made things worse.

In noisy environments I still have trouble, but at home watching TV they're working great for me.

I’d been thinking about buying a sound bar for the last year or so. I was getting really tired of my options being loud enough to hear the dialogue and too loud for the background or subtitles.

I did some research and came up with this unit. Got it set up yesterday and so far I’m really impressed with it.

My tv doesn’t have rca or hdmi/Audio connections and for some reason I cannot get it to work with the optical audio cable. But the Bluetooth works great.

The remote for it has different preprogrammed settings but so far I leave it on the dialogue setting. Dialogue is crystal clear and the background isn’t overwhelming.

My wife has great hearing, trust me mutter something under your breath and find out. But she can only listen to the tv at deafing levels

Death race 3 just came on the tv about 20 Minutes ago. It’s really just something in the background while I’m on my phone.

Lots of explosions and loud music. But the volume is set at a very moderate level (like I said just background) and I can understand everything that they’re saying.

Granted I’m dumber for hearing everything they’re saying but there ya go.

I know nothing about the brand, but when I clicked that link I noticed this one as well. Yours is a D5 (200W), and this is the D6 (240W). Not sure what else is different. But instead of $127.99, the D6 is $139.99…but has a $40 coupon. Pic looks identical.

Dammit. lol.

Well I’m happy with it.

The reviews were all pretty positive. The one that sold me on the unit was one by an obvious audiophile who has some $900 unit and his brother liked it but couldn’t afford that much.

He went into a lot of details about the unit and why he recommended it for his brother.

Anywho I can’t repeat all of it but I understood it. Lol.

If you want the other one, feel free to send me the first one

My wife would like nothing more than to have me ditch all this and get a soundbar.

Matter of fact, she texted me this yesterday. 😁

I’m sure we’ll do it at some point. I still have my whole 7.2 theater in the bonus room for when it’s time to really watch a movie. 😎
