Are you surprised?
The Ford F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle
in America for years and the best-selling truck in America
for nearly half a decade, and that likely won’t change soon.

Best selling doesn’t mean “best.” It means you’re one of two that have the work/government industry cornered. And people are brand loyal.

I own a new Ram and drive a new F-150 work truck. I’ll take the Ram all day long and twice on Sunday.

Curious to know the numbers if you were to back out the fleet sales. I know, other manufacturers also do fleet sales. But this is why the F150 has been #1 for so long.

.

I bought a brand new 2011 with the 5.0 V8. Kept it three years, and sold it to get out of the payment only. Sold it to a friend on mine. He drives it every day and has almost 200k miles on it. He hasn’t had to do one single thing to it besides regular maintenance. Not one single thing. For that reason I wish I had kept it

I love that 5.0. Not as much tq as the V6 ecoboost, but I don’t tow.

I'm sure that fleet sales have put Ford in the #1 position. Hundreds are shipped from our location every month. I'd be surprised if the Ford Explorer is not the best selling SUV, for the same reason.

I have driven many, many Ford, Chevy, Toyota and, Dodge half ton pickups over the last 3 months. I'm glad that I'm not in the market for a new truck, I can find a lot of things that I don't like about all 4 of them.

Come on man, you have to elaborate on this. If you have to start a new thread, cool.

He’s old. Don’t pay him any mind. It’s like a stray cat: give em attention once and they won’t go away.

Looking at the top three spots on that list, guess most Americans are heavily in debt.

Hey, if you don't spend it the government will! :)

Sadly I deliver enough new and used cars and have to process the paperwork to know what 'normal' people are paying each month for their lifestyle choices. China isn't our biggest worry, I can tell you that.

No, there are fans of all 4 makes that I mentioned and they will not agree with me. These are just my personal observations.

Ram was making serious progress with our fleet, then they dropped the work truck trim from gov't sales, maybe the whole line now, dealers can bid but without the manufacturer doing gov't pricing they don't win. Driving a ram and a F150 the Ford is quieter, and rides better even with ATs and offroad suspension. Haven't had to put an engine in a Ford with less than 100k on it, can't say that about Chrysler, I hope we don't get forced to keep any past 10yr/100k.

If they count the Police Interceptor Utility as an Explorer, which it is in all but name, they definitely win. Though after 2023s shenanigans cancelling a majority of orders and only offering limited FY24 slots they lost some customers to the Durango.

When has that ever stopped a CFFer from giving an opinion?

What have they done to you out there in Texas?

My comments on F150 vs Ram are mainly creature comforts. I can’t compare engines as my work truck is the pitiful 3.0 with no turbo. It can barely get out of its own way. My Ram is the 5.7 hemi and it hauls ass.

I don’t tow regularly, and when I do it’s light. The 4x4 in either one is engaged literally a handful of times per year, so I’m not offroading expert, either.

Strictly from creature comforts and ride, my money is on Ram.

I’ve owned three Ram 1500’s since 2001. The first one I let overheat via a small crack in the radiator. The second one I let a minor slip in reverse turn into losing reverse and needing a tranny rebuild. Both my faults. Maybe the third one I’ll treat right.

I learned to weld from a guy that had a 1980-something F-150 that featured downward facing skylights (i.e. rust holes to watch the road go by) and over 300k miles. He hated “A-rabs” so much he refused to do oil changes. Swore it was a conspiracy to get us to fund their lifestyles. All he’d do is change the filter every 5-10k and top off oil.

Let’s not kid ourselves thinking F-150’s of today are anything like their grandfather models.

Which of the 4 would you go with if you were?

??? I heard Biden's voice when I read that. Care to re-word it?
Yea that was all sorts of bad… I fixed sorry. Just a simple “which would you pick?”

Not surprised. Bed length, commercial and .gov sales. I could be mistaken but government projects and buying has to have a certain percentage parts made in America which was a Obama thing during his first term.

Top 6 of 10 vehicles sold based on customer satisfaction are Toyotas. According to Consumer Report there is not any American brands on that list.

You can't make a statement like that and leave us hanging. You get a lot of first hand experience with the goods and you HAVE TO SHARE your observations. It's peer pressure!

The F-150 has a delay when you turn the key to start it, irks me every time I go to start one. Most of the fleet models are the XL and I think the upper levels have the push button start. And, the 10 speed transmission is always trying to find the right gear.

The Silverados have the most uncomfortable seats of all the new trucks. And, the seat belts rub my neck.

The Dodge has a rougher ride and has a lot of road noise.

The new Tundra has a hood shape that makes it nearly impossible to know where the front corners are when in a tight spot.

These are just my observations. I have driven more F-150s than all the others combined. Luckily, I have no need for a half ton truck so, I don't have to decide on any of them.

R&D on what specifically?
For example: if it rains then goes below freezing...the door locking mechanism stops working. Doors just open up when you lean on them. Truck was developed in Michigan!
I almost fell out in a turn!

It's a recall... brought it in..it still happens.
Apparently it's a Florida model.

I’ve never fallen out if mine. Must be defective.

What year and model/size was the truck you almost fell out of in the curve?

18' XLT 5.0
Also its getting a new motor due to burning so much oil. Plasma coated cylinder walls...same situation again, no R&D.
I wonder if they changed anything after the 2017 5.0 that I’m driving. I’ve got 105k and occasionally have to add 1/2 qt between 5k service intervals, but that’s all. This truck doesn’t really haul or tow though.

Only thing I’ve repaired / replaced was the clock spring in the steering wheel.

F150 is all two of my buddies will drive. They are good riding trucks. I ve never driven one. Both buds have had a lot of trouble with their trucks. One truck the whole electrical system went out...twice. The other buds truck has had all kinds of problems. He had an extended warranty. Should have sold it when that ended. Whew!

12 to 1 compression ratio in the 5 l.

I did a bunch of research a few years ago and there are two good large pickup trucks - the Ford F150 V8 and the Toyota Tundra V8. All the other brands/models have maintenance issues to one degree or another. The Rams and Chevy's look good but they don't have a good track record after about 3-4 years. But if you can afford 85K for your commute vehicle maybe a 3-4 grand repair bill isn't worth talking about. If you want all the bells and whistles the F150 beats out the Tundra. I wanted all the bells and whistles. They are way overpriced, all of the higher end models are overpriced. I will be buying a Cyber truck if my name ever comes up on the list. My youngest boy can't wait for Elon to get me a Cyber truck so he can have my F150.

This is one of the VERY few purchases that I favor a brand name. But for my trucks my choice is ford. My first vehicle was a 1950 ford flat head 8. Ugly green. Paid 50 bucks for it.lol
I have owned a chevy truck twice. Loved them both. Hot rod short bed bubble fender 1996 and 1998 both ordered brand new. They were fast but couldn't pull zip
But, they weren't designed for pulling. Beautiful trucks and never had a bit of a issue.

Went back to Fords with 250's V-10 and 350's Diesel. Currently a 2019 F-150 Sport. 5.0 hot rod for today standards. I know the 6 cylinder has more tow but I just can't bring my sorry butt to buy a 6 cylinder. No offense intended.;)
I doubt I will buy another truck. With 35K on this one and the high cost now days of new trucks it make no sense when your retired and it's a second vehicle.
