Since the new “Ranger” is really a 75% F-150, is this Maverick thing supposed to be the real Ranger? Just a plain Jane simple little pickup?

The pics don’t make it look so. It still looks big.

If they would actually make a COMPACT truck like the old Ranger, I would be a buyer

Can't, it won't pass crash tests.

Why do so many people want to drive golf carts anyway? Bigger trucks are more comfortable.

They built this gocart sized pickup and you're still complaining that it isn't small enough. It's got 4 doors, of course it's longer than a 2 door.

It's selling because it's cheap.

I’ve always heard do not buy the first year model. New design … newish technology … new production setup … line running at capacity … I see problems/recalls in the future.
At least where Ford is concerned, there’s also some evidence that the first year provides the best value. In 2019, they introduced the updated Explorer. Each year thereafter, they removed content. A glovebox light here, a second row console there, a camera washer over there, etc.

That’s how they increase profits.

If this silly thing is what everyone wanted, why did that Subaru Baja deal flop 20 years ago?

Nobody is happy with new vehicles. Everyone says they would buy in a heartbeat if somebody offered exactly what they wanted for less than $15k.

Well, they don't. And they won't. People like Billy who buy new vehicles every year are the ones who own the market. If you haven't bought a new truck in 20 years they don't care about you.

update:

Ford Motor plans to suspend or cut production
at eight of its factories in the United States, Mexico and Canada
throughout next week because of chip supply constraints......

I like the idea of the new Maverick. There are lots of folks out there that need some of the utility that a truck offers, without needing a big, full size F150/Z71. I've always preferred midsized trucks myself, since the full size are honestly too big these days.

I think the hybrid option is going to sell a lot of trucks too. Lets be honest, probably 85% of the pickups sold these days never leave paved roads. And a hybrid option is going to be a lot more useful than 4x4 for those folks. If it can be used like a generator, like the hybrid F150 can, that's another bonus. Just back the truck up to the house/shop and plug it in.

I have an original Ranger that I bought in 1999. It has 125,000 miles. A Great tiny truck.
I didn’t realize we were related. I had 1999 Ranger with somewhere around that many miles on it. It needed repairs totaling almost what it was worth and instead of putting that much into it, I sold it to one of the mechanics at the shop I used. He had another ranger that wasn’t in as good of condition and used it for parts. My little old Ranger is still riding around town.

See Folks...That's a Californian "Glad to hear the good news about your truck". It's as close to optimistic as they can get.:p🙋‍♀️
I’m envious and regret not ordering one when I had a prime opportunity. I guess I won’t have a chance to own one until you grow tired of yours (should be about early April). 🤣

I got to sit in a Maverick Yesterday I could not test drive as it was sold. It was surprisingly roomy in the front. We will most likely ordering one when they reopen orders (2023?) We want a XLT 2.0 ZX4 with 4K towing package The better cooling of the 4K should make the motor last longer as Turbos are HOT

I have driven two escapes and two Ford fusions for work over the part eight years as company cars. Probably close to 400k miles. That said I have had a bad taste in my mouth with the issues Ford has had with their cheaper 1.5l turbo 3 cylinder engines. Even though I’m not paying for it, it’s still been a PITA.

That all said it looks like Ford is hitting a home run. If I didn’t need a real truck (Tundra) for the things I like to do this would be a great pick crap up and throw it in the “truck bed” vehicle. I think as others have mentioned it fits the needs of many people with the size, usability, fuel mileage and price. I mean what do you get for 20k anymore?

My 83 YO grandpa has one on order. Will be perfect for his trash and grocery story runs.

Drove mine today!!!!! It chirps the tires in 3rd!!!
Had a 94 4cyl 5sp standard cab when my oldest was born, it would spin them pretty good in first, break traction hard on the shift to second, and chirp them going into third, i thrashed the snot outta that little truck till we outgrew it! Should have hung on to it for a errand truck, but hind sight is 20/20 and all lol

Im around them all day at work. The maverick is nice but is pretty small by comparison to the ranger. Cab is very cramped but still for 20k its a good buy.

A senior gentleman at our church has a early 90’s cousin to the Ranger … a Mazda B2200 Plus Cab (I think its a 2.2 4 cylinder 5 speed w/ maybe 100k miles). It looks brand new … garage kept beside his huge Town Car. And don’t ask him if it’s for sale … he’ll show you the window sticker from the glove box (it was a little over $11,000) and say ”I’ll knock a $1,500 off”. 10 years ago it was funny but one day someone might take him up on it …
