I’m looking at investing in a framing nailer and want some opinions from the “pros”. I do a lot of domestic mission work through out the year with my church and local baptist association and want to invest in a framing gun. Recently I had the opportunity to borrow a cordless dewalt and loved it but their expensive and mine will be used maybe 5-10 days a month. Is the cordless dewalt worth the money or should I look for something else that is cheaper. I do not want to buy something that will break in a short time and regret not getting something better initially. What are your thoughts???

I’ve got a cordless paslode gun that’s battery powered and takes air cartridges...

I HATE IT.

It’s never worked right. It’ll shoot one nail about every 5-6 pulls of the trigger. And I know a couple other folks that have them and have the same issue. My framing nailer is a paslode and I just use it now to avoid the hassle.

My dewalt has been flawless. It’s used 2-3 times a week for light framing and general renovation work.

Are you already invested in a system or cordless tools? My initial recommendation would be to stick with one brand of tools for compatibility of batteries and chargers.

I think yellow plastic must be more expensive than other colors, because Dewalt charges a lot more for their stuff than other companies. Sort of like how green paint costs more, that's why John Deere tractors are so expensive.

I had the same thread/question on here last week.

The consensus was....everyone has an opinion. There was no clear cut “winner” in the cordless/battery v pneumatic option. The gas operated ones did seem to lose out.

I’m invested in dewalt with all my power tools being this

Avoid the paslode cartridge guns. They suck. I would either buy an pancake compressor and a pneumatic nailer or the dewalt.

Just FYI, Milwaukee has FINALLY came out with their battery framing gun. I will have one at some point. I made the switch from dewalt to Milwaukee a few years ago and so glad I did. They are 10X the tools.

Being in the "biz", I'm a fan of most battery powered tools. Pneumatic guns will generally work every time you pull the trigger but you have to deal with the hose and carrying around a compressor. Battery powered, no compressor, just shoot. That said, I don't think ANY brand is perfect and will work each and every time you pull the trigger, DeWalt included. I've used battery powered nail guns from DeWalt, Ryobi and Ridgid and of the three, DeWalt and Ridgid are a tie. Ryobi is a close second though. The top tier Milwaukee tools are great but very expensive. Ryobi are cheap to the point of being disposable but have a very wide range of bare tools that few brands can match. One thing I like about the Ryobi is their batter powered leaf blower. If you're working a site and are outside, the same battery that powers your drills, etc will power a leaf blower that will clean up the sawdust post haste.

I'd say don't sweat it, just don't go stupid cheap at Harbor Freight or Wally.

Just a question, if the Paslode gas guns are so horrible, why do you see one on every construction truck? I have had several(framing, Brad nailer, finish nailer) and loved them. They never gave me a bit of problems. I swapping them out currently but only because Milwaukee came out with their battery guns and you can’t beat Milwaukee unless you go pneumatic. And the only reason I’m going the battery way is because all my other power/hand tools are that way and batteries are easier to switch out and go.

But still, why all the hate on Paslode?
