well the VA sent me a letter that I did not have a knee replacement even thought they had the full documentation of it and the had given me the rehab 100% so started that battle back in early september with no word yet. I also refiled for my hearing and tinnitus. I had the appointment with the ear dr today after the tests he said I do have hearing loss with ringing and it is due to noise exposure and he recommended hearing aids from the VA and whatever compensation they give. Last time they acknowledged the Ear problems but said there was no proof it was service connected. I also submitted numerous hearing tests from when I was active duty that noted the loss and tinnitus ( I worked the deck as a AT troubleshooter final checker in A-6 intruder squadrons for most of my 20 years in) as of right now I have 20 % 10 for each knee but the right one has had A TOTAL knee replacement which is a minimum of 30 % so when i will all of these i should be between 50 and 60 % and finally not have it taken from my retirement check Please wish me luck

In my case 10 + 70 didn't equal 80, but 70. The most Byzantine, double speaking bureaucracy I've ever experienced.

10 + 10 doesn’t equal a 20% rating using va math
in my case the 10 =+10 =21 because 10 +9 + 19 and then I get 10% of the 19 or 1.9% because both Knees are affected so 10+10+1.9= 20.9 which rounds down to 20 %

i want to say you need a 30% rating to jump up to 80%

right, just preparing you for the possibility that you may not see the rating you're hoping for as is not a straight calculation. this link explains it very well

I took that into consideration with my 50 -60 I should have 30% right knee 10 % left knee 10% hearing and 10% tinnitus which should be 30 +7 +3.7 (Both knees) +6 +5 which should be 51.7% rounded down to 50% But anything above 45% should be rounded up to 50% also

Good luck. My 60 = 50. Like you and I have talked about I will be filing for my knee replacement soon. Will let you know how I make out.

The VA site say decision made on my hearing now waiting for the letter to yell me what the decision was. Also have a 23 Dec appointment to show them that I had a FULL knee replacement

well finally got 10% for tinitius and they will pay for hearing aids. Now on to the 23 dec appointment to show that I had a full replacement for which the min is 30%

If you end up with a rating of 50% and either get another diagnosis or have your rating upped, you basically have to requalify. If you have 50%, then that leaves you with 100% of 50% and anything rated under 5% is rounded down. So if you pick up 24%, then you will pick up an extra 10% for a total of 60%. It takes Einstein to figure VA math. They tell you that a 0% is better than nothing as you can always build on it.

here is how i am figuring it knee 1 nor rated a 10 % but now has had a Full replacement which is Min 30% by the book so I Start with 30% 2nd knee is also 10% so it =7% for a total of 37 but since both knees are affected I get 3.7% (Bilaterial conditions) 37 =3.7=40.7 then the Tinnitius is 10 of `60 or 6%which should give me 46.7% rounded to 50% so It will stop coming out of my retired check After the year convalescent rating on the knee they sent me a letter saying I did not have a full knee replacement so I have a appointment on the 23 for that I have the paperwork from my surgeon that say FULL replacement

finally got the decision from the VA now the fun starts 1st VA says they paid me my 100% convalescent for a extra month they also agreed that as of February i should have been 40% instead of 20% so $705.67 (per month) would have come out of my retirement instead of 284.93 and been tax free in sept the finalized my hearing claim and that took me over the 50% for concurrent payments. The NC dept of Veterans suggest that I ask for a full audit of my pay so they can get all of this straight. No matter what happens I am now happy as I will get both my retirement and disability

If they give you what percentage at retirement or discharge, it comes out whatever it is. In other words if you were rated at 90%, that makes 90%. If then you file another claim, you basically have to requalify because you have 100% of 10% to fill and you have to get over 30% to clear the 100%. It’s not 90+10=100, or even 90%+30%=120%, it’s 90+35% that’s rounded to 100%. Is everyone thoroughly lost yet?

Only the military could make this confusing. Best wishes to anyone assigned to Salisbury. Those doctors are there for a reason, which is la k of skill.

here is my combined ratings after winning on my knee replacement and tinitius
15 nov 2019 100% convalescent for full knee replacement
initially 1 feb 2021 20% (said that I did not have a full replacement despite having all the paperwork showing full knee replacement)
changed to 40%
sept 22 2021 50% because I won my hearing case
from 1 feb 2021 to december 2021 they paid me for 20% and as a retiree they took it out of my check
I should have been paid for 40% from 1 feb to 22 sept (also would come out of my retirement) the difference here is almost $4000.00 less taxable income
from 22sept 2022 to present 2022 I got paid for 30% (out of retirement) where I should have been paid for 50% concurrent (not out of retirement ) who knows what they are going to say about if they owe me back pay
