Has anyone tried anything like this.

I have enough in my drawer of unused holsters.

Thought I would request opinions before I just spend the $.

    https://www.giholsters.com/default.asp

Looking at an STX 2.0 or an STX with leather loops.

I have 3 on their way. 1911, BHP and Wilson EDC X9. I went with a Silent Thunder OWB because they will be range holsters more than carry holsters.

Obviously you have seen one up close or I doubt you would order 3.

I am looking for a carry holster that will work with a red dot on my 229 and that seemed to fit the bill. The leather lining seems smart too and I have not seen anyone else offer that.

Besides, my 220 will also fit it.

I gave that some thought Burt but I sure don't see much available for Sig and even less 229 related.

Never mind with red dot fitted.

    Thanks.

I have had two of them, one for a G26 and another for a G19, and they are top quality holsters. The leather lined kydex is very very nice. You can't go wrong with Garrett but I also wonder if one of our member holster makers could make one for you at a price point close to Garrett? Just a thought.

I have considered that, but this is about the only place I've seen the leather lined kydex and that appeals to me.

I had one. They are good, quality holsters. I sold the gun and holster otherwise I’d still have it.

I have one for my P30 EDC. It’s a Silent Thunder made for AIWB and I’m using a clip from Haley Strategic/G-Code Incog. It is very nice and like all leather holsters, keep the leather clean from grit so it doesn’t scratch up the finish.

I also have a Chief Jason hybrid for 4 o’clock OWB carry and it is great as well. I use it for outdoor activity when I’m wearing a coat more often. It replaced a Raven and I can honestly say that it wasn’t a mistake.

Leather and kydex? Why? Also, how thick is this thing?

Kydex for the fit and utility and a leather liner to prevent finish wear?

It’s a very thin layer of leather.

They are no thicker than most quality Kydex. You get the best if both worlds. The consistency, rigid nature and faster draw of kydex with a leather lining. The leather lining will still wear a finish but the wear pattern is different than kydex. Leather wears a guns finish but in a less aggressive way. IMHO Also you remove the click and clack of a kydex holster on draw and reholstering.

The other advantage of these is just their overall quality and finish. I still refer leather for carry.

I have made several IWB Hybrids lined with leather. However we don't do Kydex anymore. The leather does help reduce finish wear & stops that dam clickety clack noise.

My motto is Don't give me no plastic saddles, I want to feel that leather when I ride.
Also the only way I found to keep the leather attached was to stitch it across the top & it's to labor intensive & customers don't want to pay for it.

Honestly when you look at the extra time and labor involved Garrett’s pricing is not too bad. I am not sure how large an operation they have.

Holsters are an amazingly Personal thing, aren't they??? I would be ashamed to count the holsters I have. Some 100 years old. I like them all for different reasons, some just for the beauty and workmanship. I have one rig done by a master leatherman that only does 4 a year. Holsters are far more than utilitarian for me. Even the plainest are examples of the maker's best effort at his craft. They tell more than the maker wants you to know sometimes. Mike and I covered a leatherman in Utah up after the first examples impressed us so much. We sent him so many people and orders from us also that the work went to Hell. @gunbelt recently saw some of this man's work. Some looked liked jewelry, some looked like Hogan's goat.
All this to say @gunbelt and @chiefjason can do whatever you need IF you can interest them in doing it. Artists are like that.

Yup kind of like underwear. They make all different kinds and some work for come people while some do not. One is not universally better than another. It is a very personal subjective choice. Boxers, briefs .... thong?

For me a lot is about the cant. I like IWB for carry at between 18-20 degrees. For a strictly range setup I like a straight drop because it is faster. I just can't carry straight drop IWB. I think anyone who has spent enough time carry a handgun has drawer full of experiments. I try to only keep those that are working for me. Having one that does not work in a drawer does no one any good. I try to sell them, pass them along etc....

What I have found is that holsters are a lot like gun smiths. When you find one that works for you and with you you stick with them. You continue to order and re-order from them because you know what you are going to get. They don't have to be "the best" in the business they have to be the best for you. For me these days I know a Milt Sparks WMII will work for me. Warbird Leather is my current go to for custom leather. I like Garrett for higher end leather lined Kydek but still like Bladetech, Bravo Concealment and Vedder for range oriented Kydex. Nothing against the holster makers who are members here but I know these work for me. Just like handguns it takes a while to find your Goldie Locks zone and one you find it I recommend sticking with it.

I bought one of these in leather this year and I love it. I just saw they have a spin-off site with leather lined kydex.

My 3 have arrived and they are excellent. Perfect fit right out of the box. Super smooth draw with no kydex click but rigidness of kydex. I went with standard Silent Thunder OWB. The design of the holster itself allows you to clear leather/kydex quickly. The quality of the leather and the Kydex is top shelf. The belt attachment allows for 350 degree cant adjustment.

I bought them on Black Friday so I got 20% off. This put them within a small difference of non-lined kydex. I bought them for range use but they may also serve as winter conceal carry holsters they are that good.

I want to give a thumbs up to Garrett Holsters. I was working with my new BHP holster from them doing some draws and dry firing and noticed it was catching. The front post was dragging on the leather. When I look closer the sight was almost touching the top of the holster. As I drew it the movement caused it to rub against the holster tearing the leather. I called them and told them what was going on. They had me measure the sight. They then looked at their mold gun which is apparently and old T series. The half moon sight was too small. Mr Garrett admitted they don't make a lot of BHP holsters.

They created a call tag and RMA which they emailed me are are going to remake the holster taking into consideration the .250" front sight height of Heine and Yost BHP sights which ironically are still shorter than a lot of the BHP adjustable sight height sights. It would have been nice to have it perfect the first time but the fact they are replacing it at no cost to me goes a long way! Company mess up but. Everyone makes mistakes. I always believe the difference between an ok company and a great company is customer service and the willingness to correct mistakes in timely way. Garrett Holsters gets an A+ for customer service.
