So I’m about to do the 20hr service on my Yamaha SxS which will be changing engine oil, front/rear diffs and transmission oil. Have been reading a lot of forums and watching YouTube videos on the topic and decided on Valvoline 75w90 which is what one of the videos I watched recommended. However the manual says 80w90 and now I’m starting to wonder if I should go with that, or if the other weight is better, or if I’m overthinking it and it doesn’t really matter as long as the oil is GL-5 rated (which they both are).

It seems to me the 75w90 would be better since it should be thicker and coat better but I could be wrong.

80w90 and 75w90 are both 90 weight once at operating temp, honestly that small a difference in the cold pour is of little concern

Follow the manual. No need to give them an excuse to void the warranty.

While i would say you should be fine with either choice and especially since your riding in warmer areas i would follow this advice above just so they have no reason to deny a claim if you need it.

Just making sure…you meant 75W-90 the first time, when you said 75W-80?

If so, I wouldn’t blink an eye at using 75W-90 vs 80W-90.
