Asking all the internet experts there opinion on the gemtech GM22, I was in Fuquay this week and was looking at the Silencerco Sparrow and the Switchback 22, when the guy behind the counter show me this little gem. I really like the weight and feel of the Gemtech. What are your likes and dislikes of this can? Thank for your help in advance.

lightweight aluminum, but last i checked gemtech/S&W doesn't suggest using sonic cleaners, or anything involving water to clean their stuff.

My boss has one on his bolt action. It’s nice and quiet. He’s never had an issue with it.

I went with the Dead Air Mask and the Thunderbeast Takedown. Easy to clean. Very quiet. I'd never spend $200 on a tax stamp for an aluminum can.

I don’t own one, but everybody I know that has one is satisfied.

Limited cleaning options.

Of those three, I’d buy a half-dozen Switchbacks before I bought a GM-22. Then I’d repeat that ratio at least a dozen times before I bought a Sparrow. 😁

The switchback was heavy as $hit. I want to put it in the end of my 22/45 and my 10/22.

I have a good bit of experience with the GM22 Gemtec. I like them. They are light weight and disassemble easily if you don't do stupid stuff. If you get one .........you Absolutely Must spray the threaded sections with lithium grease before each use. This will ensure you can still get it apart after fouling. We had a couple that we could not get apart and I called Gemtec. Tech support said to use the lithium grease and, on the ones that I could not disassemble, they said shoot to fail and then send them back. These cans are quiet when using subs on a bolt gun. Like most cans though, they respond differently when on a semi auto. You may need a more robust charge to get a full cycle.

Great little , light , easy to maintain - good sound signature.
Also low cost of entry

I have a Sparrow. Excellent can!!
heavy and excessively complicated.
I put one on a short 22 AR upper because there was no way i was going to try to put that thing on the end of a pistol. I haven't' cleaned it in many hundred rounds. I assume i'll dunk one end at a time it in a small sonic cleaner and hope for the best...

I have a defunct huntertown b22 on a long barrel bolt gun. I used to have my gemtech on that, but the HT shaved like 3 inches off. long barrel means i don't need as much can anyway. smaller and lighter is wonderful for a longer bolt gun.

I’m not a fan of aluminum baffles for rimfire can as they’re a pita to clean. I’m not neurotic about baffle cleaning but it’s nice to utilize an ultrasonic cleaner on steel baffles. Just makes the job easier.

for hunting or long treks with a rig the ultra lightweight aluminum suppressor makes sense. For range/fun use not so much.
