Getting Away…The Impromptu Overnighter

Nothing spectacular to see here… just a simple overnight trip to Crowders Mountain at the last minute. One of those “oh my god work sucks sooooo bad I gotta get the #%^* outa here” trips. So after work my son and I throw together some quick kit, braved Friday rush hour traffic and drove down to the park.

Hiked in at dusk but it was so nice nice to sit in the cool night with a campfire going and forget about the day. A simple meal out of a single pot, a rousing game of travel Sorry! and then snuggling in for a cold but worry free evening

addendum: my son picked a dehydrated mountain house meal from our camping stash for our trip and everything tasted fine. After the fact he shared a pic of the package.

Note the 2008 expiration date! 😆. We both survived the meal

Aw come on, all of us with iron guts know that “best by” is in no way an expiration and “expires” is merely a recommendation. 😂

Been thinking about a similar quick trip to Crowders Mtn with my son. Looks like a short hike in and hopefully dispersed sites.

From the main office it’s about 1.25 miles to the campsites. The sites are kinda close together but not on top of each other. While we could see our neighbors, we weren’t bothered by them.

Firewood pickings were slim so we ended up packing in a bundle of store-bought wood. For only a mile, it was easy to carry.

There’s a small fresh water spigot about 100yds from the campsites too
