Recently acquired a GI 1911 with a buggered Ithaca frame. Appears to have cracked and been welded. Very sloppy slide and frame fit.

Seller knew he had a idiot on the hook and I learned a lesson! Not overly costly, but I feel stupid and have a useless gun I'm not sure what to do with.

Slide is a very nice looking 1918 Colt, probably reblued, but nicely done. I would love to find a WWII frame or even a post war replacement frame but expect it would be too pricy even If found.

Not sure either if a mix master would give me any warm and fuzzies.

At any rate, i need to find a Smith and discuss it with him. Recommendations appreciated.

No idea whether he can handle it. But, might be worth a call.

Were the 1918 slides heat treated? I’m afraid that you’re moving quickly into wall hangar territory so recommend being careful about investing more. Maybe better to just watch for a period-correct frame to come along, even if it takes years.

At that point you might just want a wall hanger.

Got any pictures?
