Glock slide corroded

"What you see is not Tenifer (replaced in 2010), or its replacement.
Both were/are treatments of the steel itself, neither was or is visible & neither was or is responsible for the black outer finish that you do see."

"Tenifer is a metal treatment, not a finish. However they do not tenifer anymore. The reason is cyanide as a byproduct of the process."

As to the final metal finish, its hardly new. Infact the semiglossy finish is the new finish. Gaston went back to the original finish or old finish as long time glockers like me know it as.

Tennifer was the original. There was talk about 10 years ago that Glock changed the finish due to obama era epa regulations, but as far as I know Glock never released any statements about the change.

One thing for sure, the "frying pan finish" is long gone.
Tennifer is Glock’s name for Melonite

IIRC Walther advertises a Tennifer finish on their PPQ's.

I bought a model 21 that the previous owner had stripped all the black fish off the slide leaving only bright shiny metal. I was going to send it back to Glock to refinish but never did. It’s been my truck/ car gun and has never developed a spot of rust! Obviously not the same finish

Thats part of what made the old finish great, the "black" was just for looks, the metal was actually treated. Did not matter if you wore it off, or if someone stripped it off, it was there.

Call Glock customer service and speak to the Technical Dept. They will work with you I am fairly sure. How old is the gun? If you registered the warranty they might go that route BUT it’s one of those things many of us don’t remember or choose to do.
