Running low, so I am trying a batch of plum wine. Think I will start another batch of skeeter pee (lemon) when I rack the plum to secondary.
Also down to one bottle of Mead, and plan to open it for poker night on Friday.

What you'uns brewing?

An old guy in Virginia used to make the best blackberry wine ever. He's gone and I'm sure his wine making knowledge went with him.

Joanne likes a sweet and fruity wine. Aldi has their Winking Owl Sweet Red for $2.95 a bottle. They also have Moscato, Sweet White, Merlot, and others. The Sweet Red is her favorite.

We (my wife) does all the usual suspects: blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, muscadine, scuppernong, etc.

But she did two that seemed a little unusual to me.

Tomato, which after a thread got started on here turned out to not be that unusual at all, I was just not familiar with it myself.

And the one that seemed really unusual to me, was oatmeal wine. Turned out surprisingly good. She said she just wanted to try it because she could make it without buying anything so it had possible zombie apocalypse implications.

I wonder if anybody makes persimmon wine? We had a good "crop" this year. And I haven't asked her, but I suspect it would take a lot more than we typically harvest, and even then I would probably have to be willing to forego my persimmon puddin and persimmon bread.

My spouse, "Jo" (Johanna) also likes the sweet stuff, and shopping at Aldi! I'll have to tell her about these. We hit Old Rock Quarry Winery, City Escape Winery, and South Bend Winery...all in SC, quite regularly. South Bend has a new Blackberry that's really good.

Can you send me the oatmeal wine recipe. I would like to try that.

I'll ask the wife. She's bad/good about about not using recipes and doing stuff on the fly.

If you ever find yourself in Luckenbach, Texas, pick up some of their blackberry wine. I am not a wine snob, I like the fruity/sweet wines and don't care for the dry wines. This blackberry wine is the best I have ever had, anywhere, any time. I only got one bottle and wish I had gotten a bunch more.

Here's a link to the recipe she used:

I was somewhat wrong about that one. She said she did use store bought yeast, but it was bread yeast which we keep stocked up on pretty heavy. I asked why she couldn't use her bread "starter" and she said she wasn't sure what the flour in the starter would do to the wine. But she used oats and potatoes based on the recipe in the link.

Apparently I had it mixed up with blackberry wine. She said she's been able to make it several times without having to buy yeast of any kind.
