Wife wants to go see the play Hamilton. The DPAC in Durham is sold out. There seems to be a lot of tickets for the Tanger Center in Greensboro. Any reason for this? Lack of interest in the area, bad section of town?

Would you or would you not go?

thanks

I've never been to the venue, but from what I suspect the majority of the audience demographic will be (white, female, affluent, liberal) I wouldn't worry about it. Anyone showing any level of situational awareness will be an unlikely target because of how many preferable targets will be available.

Dress modestly. Don't park in some remote lot in BFE. Be slightly more vigilant than normal.

FYI, Metal detectors in use, we scored free tickets to a concert there, only reason I went. Plus scored points with wifey! I checked before I went to see what was allowed. Needless to say you got go in necked (no protection) it was amazing to see how many folks had to go back to vehicles to put things away, mostly knives.
Absolutely be on your toes when leaving the venue, everyone knows you are unprotected!

Looking at the location on google maps, I don't think this area will be too much of a problem, though you might end up driving through some rougher areas coming or going depending on your route. The area itself isn't too far from the sheriff and PD, and there are lots of other venues like restaurants and even hotels in the area.

However, when I went to the website, it had a pop up about still requiring face diapers even though the "mandate" has been lifted and some venues demanding proof of vaccination.

Central downtown Greensboro at night is big no go for me.
I worked on S Elm Eugene St for 37yrs. I seen things.
This and I’ve seen the products of the local bars at 2am over the last 20 years. Downtown Greensboro before about 10pm is ok. After that, GO HOME

I'd probably do the Sunday 1:00pm show, so probably not a big deal with the "local" folks. I was more curious as to the number of available seats.

I'm not worried about the $8 beer. It's the cost of the ticket overall. They should give you a beer or 3

The wife watched it on disney+, she loved it. If that's your bag (musical theater) it should be an excellent show live.

Saw it at DPAC when it first came. Thought it was crap. LOTS of over-hype. And yeah, lots of "theatre" before you got inside - dogs and metal detectors and handbag searches.

You will be okay at that time

I got my wife and daughters tickets as part of their Christmas gifts. My wife is really excited. I'm really excited that they are going and I'm not!

I drove by this place last night, didnt know that's where it was.
Not a bad part of GSO, but it's still downtown city.
But there are parking garages within one block - park, walk, head on swivel, hope your wife enjoys her night

Black Triangle 🤫

It’s a decent part of town. I have run down there many times.
Almost directly across the street is a parking garage with spiral staircases. On the 9/11 anniversary they had a race there and people volunteered to walk up the steps a certain number of times to represent the victims on that day. It is downtown prime Greensboro. During the protests there was a lot of activity there, absolutely nothing during the early morning when running through.
It is a few blocks from the sheriff’s office. Also during one of the protests, a man decided to torch a cop car, in the parking lot of the sheriff’s office. It worked out very poorly for him. But that is maybe 4 blocks away.

If you don’t wanna go, watch it on Disney+. If you don’t wanna watch the whole thing, here’s one of the most genius things ever created…Hamilton in 5 minutes by Weird Al.

And a couple semi-entertaining videos with LMM watching it.
