China does not want a US friendly Korean peninsula, check. China also does not want a nuclear opponent in the region --- Japan? That was a plum tossed out by Trump in the campaign, but it is a wise move in the chess match. It is less of a provocation than us taking the first move, and it solves two issues --- No Korea's sole belligerence and China's expansionist power base in the islands. China has respect for Japan. It is also less of a provocation right now that a pre-emptive strike on NoKo.

We really haven't started sanctions yet. Bleed them. No goods, no food, no nothing. Give it a few months. Even China backs this.

But having Japan shouldering up beside the US is good strategy, because with all of China's rhetoric, they will think twice before doing anything with Japan involved.

China said this because China needs to say something.

In my opinion, I think it was a cleverly worded statement in which they backhanded Hog Jowls. On the one hand, it's a clear statement saying "don't attack first". On the other hand, it's a sly way of telling Kim Jung Un "Swat the hornet's nest and we'll stand back and watch the fun."

It's diplomacy on several levels.
 
KJU has said he will not launch missiles toward the vicinity of Guam. Obviously.

As I said in an earlier post refuting the popular misperception of KJU as crazy, he is quite rational (and in fact, NOT seeking nuke capability would be highly irrational).
