Guess What's Back The FN Browning High Power

Could be. Below are photos of an original Mk III resized to the same height or length as the new gun and finally with the trigger guards sized the same and aligned.

Based on the photos, particularly sizing and aligning the trigger guards:
(1) the dust cover is longer and the frame and slide above the trigger are taller to accommodate the change in guide rod and recoil spring, take-down lever, and SIG-style lockup.
(2) the grip is longer to accommodate the 17-round magazine.

I strongly believe the frame is longer. Springfield has already pushed the original frame/magazine size to 15 rounds and would have gone to 17 if it had been possible. The only ways to get two more rounds in the magazine are more length (a longer grip or extended magazine) or more width (a wider grip frame).

I think the original pic is distorted causing the blued version to look shorter than it is.

Yeah, these new pics definitely give better perspective. I look forward to having one in hand to compare directly with an original. Probably only take a year or three to get one for less than 3 grand, or whatever crazy price we will see on Gunbroker.

One day I am going to end up with a SA-35, EAA and a new FN just to test them against the original. Maybe the launch of a Youtube channel or website. At one time I was talking with Stephen Camps widow about moving his site over to a new platform where we could add new content. She was interested but never moved forward.

....looking at the mags, maybe. The baseplates seem to match, from a glance. Would be the right capacity too, I belive.

A lot of what I am seeing is most likely the result of economy of scale leveraging other parts that they are already producing. I would imaging the slides are made from the same blanks as the 509. It definitely is using 509 sight cuts. The mags are also probably 509 and it would not surprise if the barrels are the same and are simply cut to 4.7 vs 5" and 4.5". This would all makes sense allowing them to bring it back even if it does not move a millions of units.

Now that I have gotten my head around the idea than it is not a re-issue of the Hi Power but rather a new pistol that resembles a Hi Power, I am more comfortable with it - but it is not for me. It may be a fine shooter but the Springer comes closer to scratching the Hi Power itch. They will sell some though because FN.

People have been asking for a SS BHP forever.

One thing I did not notice until I saw the professional pics is they put the thumb print back on. The thumb safety is MKIII like but looks to have a better flat shelf which would be an improvement.

I like that.......just that damn take down lever is like an ingrown hair. My eye goes to that every time.

I am also not a fan of the ambi slide release.
Nope.....looking at the two photos you posted.....night and day. The sleek lines of the iconic HP are gone. I'm not saying I'll never own one of these, I'm just not excited about it at all. I have enough HP's (for now).

It's OK. Not your father's Hi Power. Agree with the analogy of FN and SIG having a baby. I'd still rather get an older model I think, but if someone wanted to sell me one for cheap I probably wouldn't say 'no.'

This is exactly how I feel about it. Luckily I have a few BHPs to keep me busy.

Basically a metal 509.... seems about right

It reminds me of the early FN P9 series guns which I always thought of as a poor mans polymer Sig when they sold for $300.

I had an FNP9 but I sure don’t remember no $300 for it.

FN dumped a ton of them to CDNN back in the day. I might be off a little but they were in the $300-$350 range. I had one of these.

you guys look at the gun the way I looked at girls when I was 20 years old.

I was like both of her boobs are shaped perfectly but the left one was 1 cm lower than the right so I dumped her…

now I’m like she has boobs? OK I’m in. No boobs? OK I’m in. 😂

I guess this is why I own a High Point

I'm a big fan of the FN FNS 9 Compact. Somewhat bigger/thicker than newer offerings with the same capacity, but if you shoot it better than the smaller guns......

After seeing better photos of the new gun, I'd rather buy the $699 MSRP Springfield and get its warts fixed than the $1,269 MSRP FN close-but-never-a-BHP gun. Heck, with FN's price, just buy a real, older BHP. Nevertheless, I know a lot of people will buy the stainless FN simply because it's stainless and called a High Power.

Holy smokes, Batman! - the new High Power weighs 40 ounces versus 32 ounces for the old Hi-Power.

It IS overpriced, they are literally banking on the name.

I agree that for that money I'd just buy a "real" HP.

We will have to wait and see what they end up really selling for. I would imagine they will settle out right around $1000

I preferred the safety and decocker on that FNP USG over the decocker-only on the regular FNP.

Is this a 1911? In some ways it is in some ways it isn't. Something to think about. The end all be all of it is how does the gun run, point and feel. Until we get one in our hands we are all just guessing. I do think it is funny. People have been asking for an updated BHP with better sights, better accuracy, better trigger, stainless steel, checkering on the grip, more capacity, no bite hammer etc.... and FN did it and we are all just pissing on it. We are so fickle...... LMAO

I only asked for Mark III availability by FN at a somewhat reasonable price. I get a Hi-Power, 509, and Sig mutt at stupid Hi-Prices.

No different than the later FEGs with a S&W 59 under the hood. It looks like a Hi-Power, but brother, it ain't a Hi-Power.

What do you consider reasonable?

Over priced. Get a $600 CZ75. Looks about the same.

...except the Cz 75 itself is also a legit classic, with its own aesthetic virtues.

The Cz vs this "Hi power" is like comparing a real Hi Power to one of the 59 clones-in-Brownings clothing.

Id take Cz 75 over this "Hi Power" everyday of the week. Heck, Id take an SA35 over it.

Yes, it's odd to me the shorter barrel/longer grip 'craze'. I'm pretty much the opposite; many years ago I had an extra G19 laying around so I had the grip chopped to take G26 mags.......I thought I was going to start a trend, lol, went completely the other way.
Don't make fun of the stippling, he was just getting into cerakoting and stippling. This was easy to carry and I usually had a least one spare 15-rounder on me.

I did something similar. G17 slide on a G19 frame.

CD

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it’s also in what you’re holding.

I think it‘s hideous. Too FN not Belgian FN looking.
💩the bed.

The gun looks fine. It has no flashy look. There is no trendy appeal. It’s a classical look.
You know what I’m thinking? The objective is to make money. Who’s your buyer? Is it a generation who have never seen or heard of a Browning HP. The same buyer age that never even knew Browning had a handgun? Is it 55 year or older group who owns the original, or has a half dozen guns he rarely shoots? Heck for that matter I have never in my lifetime heard anyone having a conversation about FN face to face.
