As much info that’s been shared here, it’s be real handy to have a way to quickly find info on a particular gun. RimfireCentral has a similar breakdown. ie:
Guns:
- shotguns
- Gremlin (remington)
- Mooseberg
- Benelli
- M1
- threads on that model

It would also be easy to add links from posts on other threads, like so

Is there a way to have it format like the screenshot of what I typed vs what posted?

You mean, like a shared google drive, or just subforum, with different guns listed, and youtube videos or tutorials written about disassembly, maintenance?
That would be interesting/fun to make. I would think it would be best if it was a single post editable by all, so that someone could add to the original post, instead of having to read an addendum 10 posts down, and wait for the original poster to update.

Nah, Thats what search is for.
I may be holding my tongue wrong, but I find that "Search" sometimes misses a lot especially if your search terms are more generic (or brief).

I for one would love to see aggregation in certain cases -- "how to"s is a great example. Another would be the posts of certain fonts of knowledge ( - cough - @Michael458 ) whose extensive and informative posts are often found in threads as replies but collectively constitute encyclopedic sources of ballistic data.

And it sometimes works about as well as gun control and background checks.

i I have used the search with a specific title that I posted and couldn't get a hit on it. It is most of the time hit and miss for me with the emphasis being on miss.

before the upgrade or after?

This was all before the upgrade so it maybe a nonissue now haven't tried it much since.
The search is improved in 2.X so let me know what your experience is when you do search.

I’d still like to see the minimum search string reduced to 3 characters.

You are correct. I just searched for something I had previously searched and got mixed results before. Now I got more results plus they seem to be closer to what I asked for than in the past. Looks like it is working good now.

Never fun, sometimes useful. :p

I think you can use * as a wildcard to turn a 3-character into a 4.

But searching CFF using Google is still the best option IMHO.

There is an addon to use google as the search within xenforo but I didnt want it to be able to search behind the curtain and cache results

In case it wasn’t clear, or in case people didn’t know it was possible...I was referring to using Google by searching in a separate window and limiting the results to CFF. You can search by putting this into Google (an probably other browsers):

search term(s) site:carolinafirearmsforum.com

Many manufacturers have their own forums as well as instruction manuals for downloading. I often use youtube for quick how to info.

Many times CFF is a better source than having to screen 10 bubbas that bought their 1st gun and they want to teach the art of Glock modification.

I feel like what your asking could be accomplished by cataloging tags, excluding BST. Maybe I’m wrong but this is what makes sense to me...
Want your post pinned under the useful/how to section for “Rem 870”? Add a “Rem 870” tag to it. The site staff would have to decide which tags get cataloged in the useful/how to section. Staff could of course remove tags too if a certain thread doesn’t really fit the section without impacting the OP’s post (ie having to move thread out of the how to section).

That'd help if poster's tag make and models.

Have you tried a XenForo search???
