Probably an increase in suicides. Didn't click the link, but did they provide a breakdown? Of course CNN won't detail a complete breakdown including defensive homicides, police homicides, felons killing felons, etc., but at the very least, suicide needs to be broken out.

Every statistic in the article was qualified as "age adjusted" - which to me is just a way to say "manipulated to look like we wanted it to look", because when you're looking at the entire population what adjustment is necessary?

CNN replicated that analysis and found that 39,773 people died by guns in 2017, which is an increase of more than 10,000 deaths from the 28,874 in 1999. The age-adjusted rate of firearm deaths per 100,000 people rose from 10.3 per 100,000 in 1999 to 12 per 100,000 in 2017.
CDC statisticians confirmed with CNN on Thursday that these numbers are correct and they show gun deaths have reached a record-high going back to at least 1979, which was the year firearm deaths started to be coded in mortality data.
CNN's analysis also showed that 23,854 people died from suicide by guns in 2017, the highest number in 18 years. That's a difference of more than 7,000 deaths compared with 16,599 suicide deaths by guns in 1999.

The age-adjusted rate of suicide deaths by firearm rose from 6.0 in 1999 to 6.9 in 2017.
 
It shows that 60% of all "gun violence" is suicide. I was surprised by that.

Black men were ten times more likely to die by homicide than white men (33 vs 3.6 per 100,000) but white men were overrepresented in suicides (14 vs. 6 per 100,000).

If you looked at injury, including mortal, suicide is probably a much smaller percentage. A lot of people that get shot by others or accident live.

I would also suspect quite a few accidental deaths were actually suicides, classified wrong, on purpose or because you can't tell.
 
I once sent a report to a developer showing the stats on a group of properties under construction and when he received it he called and said, "I can't send this to the investors they'd pull their money out quicker than yesterday". I reminded him that the report was not locked and he could change it read anyway he so desired, but remember I have the original. If you don't like the results of a report, change it to suit your needs and publish away....

Like we believe, have faith in or even recognize the CDC??? Get real....

Take those bullshit statistics, remove deaths in heavily gun controlled areas from them Into a separate category, and then see what the numbers say

It has ranged between 60-70% for many years.

Most people aren't aware of this because the media deliberately often excludes this and talks about the headline "gun deaths". If the average American knew that suicides accounted for a majority of "gun deaths" and a huge % of the remainder is felons killing felons, and some % is justifiable homicide, he/she would say "meh" to gun control. Which is precisely why the media keeps the public in the dark on the full breakdown of "gun deaths".

Also the breakdown of actual gun murders by zip codes would be eye-opening to most Americans. The demographics of gun murder are very inconvenient for the gun control movement and for the left in general.

The CDC site is actually pretty sweet! You can put in criteria and get a lot more info if you want.

This link will get you to the CDC site. After you click agree, the linked search will be ALL firearm deaths sorted by year since 1999.

If you take out the suicides and a couple of the major urban(dem controlled) areas, we have one of the lowest rates in the world. If you set the Parameters right it shows no white folks have been killed by homicide, by gun in DC for years, all Black folks,hundreds of them.

Actually, usually it is “gun violence”.

Like if you jump off a bridge. It’s not suicide. It’s bridge violence.
 
Certainly hopelessness, despair or drug abuse has nothing to do with it.

Just guns.
 
What the state to state figures on CNN really show, is that you're seriously disadvantaged if you're a black man in this country. In New Jersey for example, you're 48 times more likely to be shot to death than if you're white. It also really goes to show that taking guns away from law abiding white men will have little to no effect on the total number of gun related homicides. That said, ramping up the suicide prevention programs in this country might do some real good, and seeing as mass shootings are just gloriously executed suicides, it might strike at the heart of that issue as well.

CDC still files the big Gov anti gun orders and includes suicide.
Suicide should not be included in these numbers at all. These people would have simply chosen another name of death.
Suicide rates did not go down after guns were confiscated in Australia.
Japan has a ban on guns but has the highest suicide rate in the developed world.

Which is why it’s time to stop trying to debate that crowd with facts and figures. It’s time to tell them to go to Hell and sit down and shut up.

Remember that shooting at the CT elementary school? Our sides motto was NO, not one damned inch. It worked and they were livid.
