They are not stupid obviously, but logically they should realize AR type weapons are not the choice of most criminals - by far. Virtually all guns seized after crimes are illegally obtained handguns. High profile mass AR type slaughters are an exception, with insanity a common factor. Most gun murders are committed by blacks in a few ghetto counties. "Assault Weapon" mass shootings are typically spectacular, white on white, with relatively few victims. ( Chicago weekend.) So there is a complex racial dynamic both in the shooters' behavior and the grabber's subconscious evaluation that miss-focuses their fears. I assume the buzzword "universal background checks" means private gun sales or trades or gifts will become illegal. When Walmart stops selling certain boxes and Virginia goes full retard, how can ordinary people who like to shoot hope to remain law abiding citizens? We have to reorient these folks somehow or they will vote us to jail.

You must first realize that most of the liberal voters are pawns. You may be able to sway some that are in your area of influence, and you should, but that will not stop the flow of money from the elitist who want to change the world to make it pliable to their will. You can read that as 'new world order, one world government, UN, ' or any number of names associated with the power brokers who influence trade and life around the world. I personally like 'Cabal'. As to how to remain a legal gun owner, I could say continue to vote, but I don't think that is going to get us out of this quagmire. I like the idea of draining the swamp but it will take more than a few elected officials. It will have to be done with dirt on OUR hands. After Lobby Day it should be apparent that peaceful protest don't mean much to corrupt politicians who leave the area to be guarded by paid thugs. As to the small number of 'mass shootings' it draws critical reviews to all gun owners every time it is mentioned on the news. To the point that any bar fight with a gun involved now leads the hour as another mass shooting.
There's where you went wrong. The liberal mind is emotional first and always. logic is only used to find a way to justify the crazy.
Never attempt to refute the liberal mindset or challenge their emotional sensitivities by confronting them with facts or statistics unless they have a safe space close by.
That's just the problem. Keep going like we are and all the "safe spaces" will disappear. Real ones first then the imagined ones of the liberals. Trouble is by then it will be too late.
If you are referring to having civil discussions, there is a distinction between leftist and liberal. Having a discussion with a leftist is a trap. They are trying to change your mind or make you look like a fool in order to discredit your arguments.
A liberal may or may not change their mind, but can be convinced that their beliefs are not "common sense", and even that the actions they have been told are good will disproportionately impact minorities and people at economic risk.

In the end it has to do with total disarmament. Full stop.
They don't understand or appreciate self sufficiency and preparedness. It's a foreign concept. They've been lied to and deceived to the point they believe removing firearms from public ownership will magically stop all violent crime and remove the evil from the heart of man. They've been intentionally deceived to do the bidding of the puppet masters.

Humans are herd animals.Belonging to a pack ensured survival but the flock mentality has become a handicap. Conservative, liberal, leftist, free thinkers all are susceptible to mindless adoption of core pack beliefs. Don't get caught up in semantics. We're all susceptible to the hard wiring. Communication is the goal though it's extremely difficult in these hostile days. True enough Libs fight dirty to win, ends justifying any means. They want to have a "conversation" only after they illegally remove statues, names, signs or photos they find offensive. But the hardliners are squishy on facts, ethics, and fundamental decency. The misguided do -gooders might be open to persuasion. Hope is not a strategy but hope the pendulum swings back toward objective sanity soon. I try to go easy on people but must be too contrarian still, judging by the shocked reactions.
