Built a few handgun racks in the shop...open to constructive criticism. These worked well when mounted to the bottom side of shelves in my safe. Trying to design some that will mount vertically too, for a dedicated handgun safe.
These are stainless, but I'm thinking about steel versions and having them powder coated.
Rods have rubber tips and HD heat shrink from Lowes for bore protection.

I just can't figure out why one would need to build a gun rack given the fact they lost everything in a boating accident. Glad to see you back!!!!

Oh the rack looks great. I like it.

That is a neat rack. I'm guessing it just screws to the underside of that wooden shelf?
Thru-bolted to the shelf, lot of weight hanging there and I didn't trust screws.

Oh...those aren't MY handguns...I just borrowed them for the pic. I'm anxiously waiting to see if the new Hudson's will float :)

Looks good. What's the rod length?
Made a few that are 7" exposed, and a few that are 6" exposed. Some 5" will be next. The top 2 pics are 12" wide to hold 6 guns (fit my narrow shelves)...the last pic shows a 15" version for 7 guns.

Ok, can't figure out how to reply to a comment on my post so... Any thoughts on selling them? I may have room for one in my safe.

I didn't really keep track of time on these builds, but I intend to. Not sure at the moment whether it would be less to simply stick with stainless, or go steel and add the cost of powder coating. Another thing is aesthetics...but really, how good do they need to "look".
Where are you located?

Looks good. I would dip them in that rubber stuff for coating tool handles. It's unlikely that you'd end up with one of those rubber caps in a barrel, and if you did it may not matter, but why not avoid it altogether.

Nice looking rack. Have you thought about maybe using a piece of rubber hose over the rod rather then heat shrink? I know it will add some diameter but it would also add some padding and be less prone to tearing. Just a thought....

Plasti dip is what you're talking about, it comes in quart cans for dipping and spray cans.

Thanks blink, that's the stuff. Could use different colors for different calibers if you wanted.

I researched that, but found that a lot of folks had issues with it coming off.

Actually looked for surgical tube, but couldn't find any locally of the right diameter. Those rubber tips are glued on, but I'll keep an eye on them.
