I did the mts class recently and burned through 400 rounds in a few hours (easy to do with multiple 15 rounds of fury).

Everything ran fine, much better than the guy with the sig and another guy who somehow had no gas pressure to cycle the bolt.

I never had a bolt so carboned up. It was really dry and went all the way to the bolt itself

I spent a couple of days putting bore cleaner on it and wiping and nylon brushing but there's some hard carbon left near the gas rings on both sides. It's a nib bcg so it should clean easier.

Anyway: should I care? If so, what to do next? I've heard different opinions on scrapers.

You can use BoreTech Carbon Remover and it will disappear.
Ok I'll try that. But I used three different solvents to see one would work.

Edit: bore tech must be magical because it is out of stock everywhere.

Or you can just keep it lubed, and clean it later......

If it still functions, lube it and continue on.........

You aren't turning it in the armory after a week on the range to qualify.

I promise it won't hurt it to have a little carbon build up.......

Yep, Bore Tech themselves seem to be the only one who has it in stock- but the shipping cost is high. So I'll try the ultrasonic first. I'd love to find it on the shelf at a LGS, but the only I hit was BassPro and they don't stock it (and only had Hoppes)

Seen some f-class guys using CLR. It’s easy to source, and if those guys are willing to use it on their high dollar rigs, it must be safe.

A quality ultra sonic cleaner. One of the best all around tools I have ever purchased
(+ @Scsmith42 )
So this worked well- I don't know if mine is a 'quality' ultrasonic, but it got most of the carbon off the bolt carrier. The bolt is better, the only carbon left is on the tail. I'll get one of those scrapers at some point, but I'm still holding out for some Bore tech C4.

Bore Tech carbon remover isn't available on Amazon (may be due to lack of supplies) but there are other brands of carbon removers that might work. Search "carbon remover for guns".

Glad it worked ,

I know that Frontline Defense Range keeps it in stock behind the counter. That is where I get mine. They also carry the CU+2 Copper Eliminator. Both are excellent products.

Ultra sonic or carbon killer but.....carbon on a bolt.....whats that.....lube and keep shooting :)

BCM Filthy 14...cleaning is overrated lol
