From their respective senator concerning the opposition to Bucky beavers appointment to head the ATF? I actually got a letter from Tom Tillis (shock) thanking me for contacting him concerning our opposition to this ass hat being put in charge of the ATF. He said that he is on the committee that either approves or disapproves the nomination and he said that if Chapman is entered as a nominee he would surely vote no. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not naive enough to believe any politician but one can hope.

I didn't get any response which now you come to mention it, is a little odd - they normally at least get some kind of generic auto response.

You all know that this is what the respective senator's pages are for. Those poor kids pour through the snail mail, emails, etc. Then pull the generic response and reply via the the initial contact.

The elected official knows what is coming and prepares his/her staff to respond. I doubt that any of them even craft their own response.

They don't.

i guess the next step in the confirmation got pushed back a week, for unknown reasons. Maybe they need to wait for the checks to clear...

Deplorable me, I also received the same message in an Email response, I sure hope he isn't just politicking, he has not been one of our most reliable Senators.

Dear Mr. CD:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about proposed rules issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). I appreciate hearing from you.

I share your concern about recent proposed rules 2021R-05 and 2021R-08 which would expand gun regulations and impact the rights of law-abiding gun owners. It is the role of Congress, not ATF, to determine our gun laws in line with the Second Amendment.

These rules would require federal firearm licensed dealers to permanently maintain records of firearm transactions, including personal gun owner information. They would also impact upwards of 1.4 million law-abiding owners by redefining pistols and AR-15-style firearms and place them under the regulation of the National Firearms Act.

I have sent two letters raising alarm about these overreaching rules. First, on June 21, 2021, I joined three of my colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee and sent a letter to Acting Director Marvin Richardson about proposed rules 2021R-05 and 2021R-08. We made clear our concerns about these misguided regulations, and how ATF had overstepped its authority.

And then, on June 24, 2021, I joined 47 of my Senate colleagues in a letter to Acting Director Richardson and to Attorney General Merrick Garland about proposed rule 2021R-08. We urged them to withdraw this rule which would turn law-abiding Americans into criminals.

These rules are bad enough on their face. But I am also concerned that President Joe Biden has chosen to nominate David Chipman to be the ATF Director. Mr. Chipman has a long history as an anti-gun activist and has supported measures that would infringe on law-abiding Americans’ Second Amendment rights. I have been vocal in my opposition to Mr. Chipman, who has been on the wrong side of every debate about the Second Amendment, and who would implement a radical gun control agenda if he were confirmed. These rules would only be the tip of the iceberg for the Biden Administration’s gun control agenda if Mr. Chipman were confirmed.

ATF is a law enforcement agency tasked with protecting public safety and preventing violent crime. It is not a lawmaking body with the authority to take away your Second Amendment rights. The fact remains that the Second Amendment protects the fundamental rights of law-abiding citizens – which cannot be unduly stripped away. I will continue to fight back against any Executive Branch attempts to infringe on our Second Amendment rights.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about other important issues.

Sincerely,
