Going to pick up another safe soon. Last one we got, we used an old beater truck we had at the time but now, I’m concerned with tail gate damage on the new truck. Safe will be under 550 lbs, and our truck is slightly taller than an average truck.
I was thinking about renting a uhaul cargo van since it’s lower to the ground. Should be easier to lay it in it’s back and slide in, right?

Are you talking about the small utility trailer?
Trip is very short, 8-10 miles

Yes. The single axel 5x8 has a max load of 1,890 lbs.

Don't get one with a tailgate ramp.
Use wood planks or plywood in the trailer to help slide it in once you lay it down.

I bought, picked up and moved a similar weight safe with my 1500 Sierra, 2 atv ramps and a heavy duty dolly and ratchet straps. No issues with tailgate.

I have two trailers not being used. You may certainly borrow one of them if you need.

Take tail gate off and slide safe in on back. Then put tail gate back on. Thats the safest way. Then you dont have to worry about it

Not that easy with new trucks.
I had to take the tailgate off to get a dent popped out, what a pain in the butt. The wires and connectors are aggravating to get to and not a normal plug either. It’s like Da Vinci’s code getting them off.

Yeah ever since the locking ones and cameras this has increasingly become a problem.

So the safe will weigh about the same as two overweight adults sitting on the tailgate with a cooler full of beer? I don't see the problem.

Really? Under 550 lbs. Two men and a truck. Push it on its back from a standing position with a blanket in the bed and it slides right in. Magic.

Isn’t the fireproofing in these essentially Sheetrock? If so be easy when pushing it over as a hard impact can crack or damage it (internally) and mess with the fireproofing!
