Ok, so AR's I get, I "mostly" know what to look for, but I am out of my comfort zone with AK's.

So I've got an itch I need to scratch, in the form of an AK pistol. Preferably one with a folding brace.

I have no idea what I'm looking for manufacturer wise, so help me out so I don't get screwed. Who should I stay away from? Any particular features I should look for? As far as use, this will be a range toy, for I am a mere cul-de-sac commando, a Tactical Terry, if you will.

Would like to stay under $1000.

This is kinda what I have in mind, but with a brace....

+1 on the Yugo/Serbian PAP M92. They're built like brick poohouses. That's an M92 in your photo. Here's mine:

Romanian Draco is another solid choice, and will give you more standard stamped AK furniture and accessory options if you want to add stuff down the road. Century is a big (albeit pretty disrespected) name in the AK game. Century imports are fine, but I'd recommend staying away from Century built guns. Don't settle for a C39v2 pistol.

If you like triangle folders, CNC Warrior makes a very nice tubular folding brace (though it is OOS at the time of this post). They make options to fit just about any AK pistol variant.

So a Draco, Romanian made sounds like the consensus! Man, I picked the wrong time to even glance at AK’s. Everywhere is OOS, and armslist is even more sky high than usual. Even x39 steel case ammo, a few jacklegs are selling (trying to anyway) it at $1 a round. Oh well, it’ll settle down eventually.

I like the PCC’s, but the idea of an AK in 9mm doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies. I’m sure it’d be fun to shoot, but for now, I’d like to stick with x39.

Wonder how sturdy the attachment to the pistol grip would be? I’d be tempted to try something like that before drilling anything and permanently altering it. Although it seems like a good weak point that could be easily exploited by a good drop at the right angle.

It looks like @IUHoosier429 has that type of attachment on the M92 in that pic he posted.

yeah not really the best time to buy. Hopefully things will settle down this summer. I was not adequately prepared for a shortage.

Is you're desperate, SOSS has them for $729. They were about $100 cheaper a week ago.

Hmm, I may hold off for a few months, I’m desperate for one by no means, and I’m not paying the CTD price for ammo to feed it right now.

AK-E is a rifle.

OP, AOA got in some Polish pistols for $650. These recently sold out at Atlantic for the same price.
Can't speak to their quality, but people seem satisfied with the WBP rifles. Looks like they take standard AK furniture. Threads should be 14x1 standard underneath the welded muzzle cap.

If they're the same setup as Atlantic had, they also have a siderail, which the Draco and Pap don't.
I miss read this post AK-V hands down best pistol caliber carbine I have ever owned.

Thanks for all the help folks! I ended up snagging a Romanian Draco at a fairly decent price!

Still looking at braces and fore ends, but I did order some mags and a US Palm grip to get me started.

Now to find some x39...........

Nice snag! US Palm/Tango Down grips are super comfy. Brace shouldn't be hard to find, either new or secondhand.

IMO the laminate wood handguards look best on these things. Lots of tutorials here and on other gun forums about sanding, staining, and refinishing the wood.

Oh, and add a Romy drum to your checklist for that thing, too. For no reasonable reason whatsoever.

Hey @dlee12, just got an Optics Planet email that all SB Tactical braces are on sale. Not sure if that's the route you want to go, but FYI nonetheless!

Thanks! Why wouldn’t I need a drum? LOL. I’m really diggin the wood handguard, was thinking swapping it for tacticool, but it’s growing on me. An ultimak gas tube rail should work I’m assuming, to mount a dot, and then a folder and this’ll be a shooter!

I think if it didnt have logos it would be ok but that SIG says hey look at me.

Exactly, I hate big logos on stuff, it may just get sharpied or rattle canned.

@dlee12 looks awesome! Would look awesomerrr with a metal drum mag, but so far so good

If that Sig logo is etched on you can use some aluminum black on the bare metal. And if you feel the optic itself is too clunky, IMO mini reflex sights work very well for a scout setup on a pistol like that.
