I have a friend who needs a chp class and permit ASAP due to a threat. Where can I point her close to Greensboro? I know dealing with sheriff is a totally different thing. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

We're getting in contact with sheriff now, she just wants a license to have beyond emergency time frame. Will check out Lewis creek

Taking the class and the wait for the sheriff's office will take several months. Since the PPP is gone, she should go ahead and get her firearm for protection and open carry if needed. Sheriff's used to be able to issue temporary permits when there were specific threats. If there is a threat, she should go ahead and file non-contact/restraining order paperwork. Granted the paperwork does not stop someone intent on doing harm, but if she had to use force it would show that she tried using the courts to prevent it.

I agree, from experience, that the CWP process is not the solution to an immediate problem. It's a process that takes too long. You will have to find other answers until that works it's way through. That will mean a change in life patterns and thinking.

What kind of threats? Domestic, co worker, family there are different ways to handle different situations. I'd be happy to explain them to you.

Remember it is perfectly legal to carry a concealed handgun in your own home without a CHP. It is also a great way to get to know your holster and the issues around carrying concealed while sitting, moving around, going to the bathroom, etc.. If she is worried about an attack, there is probably a greater likelihood of that taking place at her home. Get a door reinforcement kit, buy some door wedges on Amazon, get an alarm at the house, and best yet, get a dog and let it out at night. Don't kennel it at night.

A long time ago a friend and I were doing some side work painting a lady's house. She had like 8 big dogs, which she kept in a kennel outside, and lived alone out in the country in a big old house. Didnt believe in guns, and the dogs never stayed in the house at night. I tried to talk to her but she was a liberal. Anyway, we finished the job and went on with life. A few months later she came home later one evening and went to bed. A neighbor's son, who was under 18 I believe, had broken in and was in the closet of her bedroom. He came out of the closet when she went to sleep, put a knife to her throat, and raped her several times that night. She convinced him she wouldn't call the police. Luckily it worked and he didn't kill her. She changed her mind about guns after that I heard. She actually said she should have listened to what I told her according to my friend. It is sad it takes a tragedy for people to realize their worldview is wrong. Some of us are hardheads and we learn from our own mistakes and don't listen to people who think differently.

I would strongly recommend she get the gun and immediately find a trainer. Ryan Coe at Apex Defense Group does private classes in the triad. It is important to get some training. There is far more to personal protection than buying a gun. Awareness, mindset, and practice are all crucial to protecting yourself.

I second the fact that the sheriff can issue an emergency permit so definetly ask about that.

Caliber’s in greensboro would be another option to check about classes. They use to offer a period of range use included if you took it with them.

Try Reese Firearms in Kernersville..He has a special going on right now also. Request a private basic pistol class with him also. Definitely follow all the good advice in the prior posts.

My friend carries everywhere, if he has to use it , what difference would a permit make in todays times.
concealed weapon felony. at least your friend would have taken the trouble to do the first half the legal way...

look at the rittenhouse trial - they spent months making up fake charges, only to have the judge say 'nope, it was legal'
