I have a '76 dated Marlin 1895 in 45-70. I don't take it out often. It looks brand new, with a beautiful set of walnut for the stock/foregrip. Are the Henry side gate 45-70s as sturdy as the Marlins used to be? I was thinking of getting one. Also like the idea of a loading gate as well as a tubular magzine. Looking for some input on a Henry big bore, as I have never owned one.Thanks.

Yes.

Marilns never lost their sturdiness... Marlins, Remlins and Ruger Marlins have all been sturdy. Remlins may have been poorly fitted for a couple of years, but they were sturdy.

I own a henry 45-70 steel model before they incorporated loading gate. It runs my reloads great. Very accurate with the right projectile. with hornady FTX 325 projectiles I can connect on 300 yard gong. Quite a bit of drop but very consistent. I would not hesitate to get the Henry 45-70 especially now that the loading gate is standard. The action is solid but probably not on the nuclear 45-70 end like a Ruger #1. When I load 45-70 I follow the mid-level loads compatible with the Henry. Such a great cartridge the 45-70! Govt!
