Here's an idea...

In all seriousness, I think canines are one of the most overlooked resources we have available. They'll work any shift for as long as you want to stay, they never take sick or vacation days, they don't moan and bitch about their boss or co-workers, they never ask for a raise and their never late for work. What more could you possibly ask of an employee??

I read a article not to long ago that the k9 ancestors might have actually domesticated it's self. They saw that humans provided shelter and food if they offered protection and hunting ability. I thought it was a really cool article.

My German Shepherd sure is a home security deterrent at my house. The pizza man knows he is loud and big, he knows it and tells his friends too, they won't come a knocking to get their heroin fix.

Better handwriting and maybe a little modesty?

The boss brings his dog to work every day and I bring my pup once a week. Love having a dog around even if all they do is lick themselves and fart.

I agree dogs are very under used. Most people don't realize how many hours and how much money go into making one decent working dog

Stop and think about the time and money put into properly training an employee from scratch. The employee could leave and go somewhere else, the dog will be with you for it's lifetime. Which is better money spent??

How so? That comment made me curious, what do you mean?
Not 100% on your query. But I've seen dogs who do not indicate on cars while doing searches and officers start going around and pointing at parts of the car trying to get the dog to react. It undermines my confidence and confuses the dog.

It seems that SOME officers think that they have to find something every time they come out. The officer has to make a report of each encounter with the statistics on whether or not the dog found anything or if it indicated and there wasn't anything found and false hits could destroy a big case if it ever came out.

Got ya. Thanks. I was just genuinely curious what you meant by not trusting the dog on the part of the human. Makes sense now.

I had complete trust in Bailey and Lucy as well. They have both been taught to NOT bark in the middle of the night until I give the command. They come wake me up and will indicate where the noise came from, then it's my job to figure the danger or lack thereof. Bailey would come growl in my ear until I woke up and Lucy will get on the bed and push me with her head. I never ignore her and thank God her alarms have been false so far..... But one never knows.....

I'd love to learn how to train a dog that well...mine still go apeshit for the doorbell no matter what I've tried.

They would both go ballistic at the doorbell IF we were up. Once we go to bed it's quiet time and would only alert. Lucy was easier to teach, Bailey was the bull headed one because she felt like she was "big" enough (90#, alpha female Lab) to handle whatever it was.
Lucy is all of 36 pounds and as you know is a lover, not a fighter.

Dogs are trained creatures of habit, too. Making the dog do what it specifically was trained NOT to do really screws up that training...and makes the dog less reliable over time.

Rotate them, your Rottie will appreciate it.

She loves the outside. Only times I can get her to come in is when it's really cold out or raining hard... She use to sleep in my bed but she's just too big! She would push me out of it lol. She has a huge dog house ( 5'x8') but she won't get in it.... Grrrrrrr. She is my baby. Got her from the pound 5 years ago. She's alittle over 10 now...

Her working hard :)

I agree. It would be a good idea to have a trained dog on board. I also think it would be a good idea to have everyone on board, at least those willing, armed with t-ball bats. Yes, I'm serious.
